Good walk through Central Park
 

A week or so ago, I read a post about a route for a good walk through Central Park. I have searched this forum, but can't find the post again. Does anyone have any route suggestions for a good one to two hour walk through Central Park?

Start at the Mall, closer to the east side around 66th Street. Walk north up the mall past the bandshell to Bethesda Terrace. See the beautiful fountain, pond & boathouse in the background.

Turn west and cross the Bow Bridge and walk up through the woods to Belvedere Castle. Enjoy the view of the Great Lawn.

Then continue north to the Reservoir! From the Reservoir you can exit the Park on either the west or east side, whichever is more convenient for you.

Just don't do what I did in March when I was there and go the opposite direction leaving Belvedere Castle and end up at the opposite end that you were intending. My legs are still sore from that walk...Enjoy it - its a great park.

Here's my favorite- Start on the west side of the park at the Museum of Natural History, and generally head southeast toward the southeast corner of the park. You would pass through the Ramble (rock formations with paths going through) then cross over The Lake on Bow Bridge, to Bethesda Terrace & the fountain, under 72nd street & up the steps to the bandshell, then down past the back side of the zoo and Wollman ice rink, finally down to 59th St & 5th Ave. Very pretty and lots of interesting sights.

If you're going to walk up to the reservoir, do keep going to the north end of the park - it's beautiful! You can visit the Harlem Meer and the Conservatory Garden, which is at 105th and 5th Avenue.

From the exit at the north end, you'll be right near the 110th Street 2/3 stop to head back downtown (or wherever you're going!)

If you are really wanting to see something in particular, have a map.

Sounds simple but my youngest son had his heart set on seeing the Balto statue and we headed out on our last morning to find it thinking it would be easy and if not, we could ask someone.

We had to ask at least 7 different people before we could find it! The up side is we got to talk to a lot of nice locals! We did end up finding it and I have lots of great pictures of my happy son with Balto!

Thank you, everyone! Between your answers and the answers to Ellenem's previous post, I have lots of ideas. It will be fun to recognize many of the often-filmed features in the Park. Reneeiva, is the Balto statute along the East Drive near the zoo? The teenage girls with me might really like that!
