Good Surf Fishing near St. Petersburg Beach
We are making our first trip to the area and would love to hear about some good spots for fishing from the surf in the region. Also some good seafood restaurant recommendations............

I would recommend you go to Ft. Desoto park and fish on one of the two fishing piers or to go to the Sunshine Skyway fishing pier. Both are less than 15 minutes away from St. Pete Beach. Right now the spanish mackeral are starting to get thick, you'll need a silver spoon (clark spoons work best) and about a foot of thin wire leader, or about 2 feet of 40lb test mono for a leader. The water moves quick through the skyway, you'll need to bring some 1oz weights if you are thinking of doing some live/dead bait fishing there. They have a bait shop on the pier and you can get everything you need there.
I've never had much luck shore fishing around here, though I hear rumors if you get up at dawn, you can see tarpon and snook just inside the sandbar depending on the time of year.
