Good restaurants in Anchorage, Denali and Seward

We are excited about our first trip to Alaska and for us a good dinner experience is always a great way to end each day. We will be travelling between Seward, Girwood, Anchorage, Talkeetna and Denali. I looked at the fodors raves and rants (www.fodors.com/rants/) for restaurants but we are interested in feedback or additions to the recommendations like Seven Glaciers, Moose's Tooth Pub, Marx Brothers' Cafe, Jens', Cabin Night Dinner Theatre in Denali.

The Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage is great. Make a reservation. It gets really busy during the high season. There aren't a whole lot of restaurants in Denali!!

For Denali you can try The Perch. Kind of hard to find, but just ask your hotel, they should know.

Anchorage: Orso (great Italian-same ownership as Brewhouse mentioned above), Simon & Seaforts, Cafe Amsterdam for breakfast/lunch, Bear Tooth (same owners as Mooses' Tooth, but across town-has tex-mex food. You can eat on the restaurant/grill side or in the cafe, or order food and watch a movie while you eat in the theatre too!)

Have Fun!

In Seward, we loved Christo's. It is a wonderful Italian Restaurant located near the Sealife Center. It was elegant yet very reasonable. Very good food.

If I recall, the Grande Denali has a nice restaurant and a fantastic view. There is also the Crow's Nest and there is a brewery up there but I can't recall the name. The Princess Lodge also has restaurants. Enjoy your trip.

Rays in Seward, the Brewhouse in Anchorage, and, The Perch or Crows Nest in Denali. You might want to up your credit limit. (just kidding)....sort of.

Have to second Ray's (waterfront) in Seward. Best meal we had in Alaska.

I've been to Marx Brothers. Recommend it. Upscale, a bit pricey, but very good.

Glacier Brewhouse is more casual, but a lot of fun. Good brewpub food, as you would expect.

I believe there is a restaurant at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge (outside Talkeetna, built in '99). Good food and a wonderful atmosphere overlooking the mountains. We sat out on the huge deck at the hotel drinking a bottle of wine and admiring the scenery while we waited for our table. It's also a great place to stay, but the prices seem to have gone up a lot for the lodging since we were there...but, maybe we got a special rate, we were there a few weeks after it opened in '99.

For Seward, my vote is for Rays. One of the better meals on my trip to Alaska.

Be sure to make reservations at Ray's as soon as possible. They are very popular!

Just remembered. We had a fabulous meal at the Seven Glaciers restaurant at the Alyeska Hotel. Here's their website: http://www.alyeskaresort.com/snow.html.

In Seward we had a good meal at Rays. In Denali, we ate at a restaurant high on the cliffs that was good. Maybe by Denali Bluffs Hotel?

Our favorites were Cafe Cups in Homer (we had lunch there twice)and Peanut Farm near the Anchorage airport (delicious grilled halibut sandwiches). Cafe Cups has some incredible "specials" daily... salmon with green curry, freshly caught clams etc.

Brewhouse Pub is perhaps the busiest and most popular restaurant in Anchorage. Also down the street from Brewhouse is Saks Cafe, which is also very good, but a small place. Other restaurants that get raves in Anchorage are Jens, and Club Paris. I used to like Simon and Seaforts, but haven't been there in a few years. Maybe someone who has been recently can give a review.

Anchorage: Moose's Tooth, Fried Halibut at any street-fair booth. Skip the Glacier Brewhouse: LONG waits and mediocre-to-bad food on my visit...the worst french-onion soup I have ever had and my wife's fish entree returned twice before getting it right. Girdwood: Double Muskie-- LONG wait but worth it this time. Also Seven Glaciers (make reservation). Seward: Agree on Ray's.

We liked the Moose's Tooth, esp the beer sampler ... my favorite was Artic Apricot. Great pizza. If you are in Anchorage on Saturday go to the farmers market. There's some great food booths set up.

In addition to the Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage and Ray's in Seward, I would recommend Simon & Seaforts in Anchorage for dinner (very upscale) and the Snow City Cafe for lunch. In Denali the best we did was ordering pizza delivery and bringing a bottle of wine from Anchorage!
