good restaurant/lounge in Syracuse?
We will be in Syracuse, NY, for my wife's college reunion (never mind which one) in late May. We will have one evening for a special evening of dining and remembering at someplace in Syracuse, or nearby with her classmates.
I'm sure that the alumni will have many, many topics to discuss at length. I'd at least like to have some memorable food to hold my interest while they chatter on. Any suggestions? :-) |
No suggestions, just a request for a trip report! An SU grad myself, I haven't been back for some time, would love to hear about how things have changed...or stayed the same.

We always enjoyed Joey's, an Italian place near Carrier Circle on Thompson Road. The Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles is more upscale but a bit of a drive from the city.

Probably not what you're looking for, but we're having dinner at Dinosaur BBQ next week when we meet with friends from our time in Syracuse (DH's second job out of college was at the Herald-Journal from '76 to '79). I'd heard about it here on Fodor's and we had dinner there with friends the last time we passed through the area. DS loved it and insisted that we eat there again this time.

Thank you all for the good suggestions. My DW is a graduate of LeMoyne College, and she is looking forward to catching up with the lives of some of her old friends.
I will look forward to the food and, if the conversation gets too boring, the drink. I won't be able to tell how things have changed, BTilke, but I will pump the others for information and will try to post at least a short trip report. :-) |
I'm from Syracuse and I love the Dinosaur. However it can get really packed considering what else is happening in town or if the weather is awesome. It can make it difficult to sit and talk with a group. I love this place but you may want a back up plan. I have heard Ambrosia in Armory Square is really nice. Armory Square is filled with lots of pubs and restaurants so I would recommend that area. It's really nice. Little Italy is also looking real good and Antonio's has great food too. It's on North Salina Street.
Just outside of Syracuse I enjoy Lock 24 in Baldwinsville. It's off RT 48 right on the actual Lock 24 of the Erie Canal. They have outdoor seating which I find to be very comfortable and relaxing even if the town is hopping. I would recommend this place if you have nice weather. The food is also good. The Retreat in Liverpool is also a great place to eat and drink. You will find it on First St. in Liverpool. |
Thanks, Annikani! Our hopes of finding a neat place to schmooze and dine in Syracuse are looking good!
