Good Reads

I've dug thru the archives and can't seem to find the thread about good reading while traveling (not travel books).

I did try only one book from that list, which I enjoyed 'Miles from Nowhere' by Barbara Savage about a husband and wife who transversed the world on bicycles.

Here's another one that I just finished 'Walk on the beach' by Joan Anderson. This is a book about the younger and perplexed Joan 51, who befriends the older and much wiser 93yr. old Joan. This all takes place in one of my favorite places, Capecod - excellant read.

Any other rec. from like minded travelers on any subject matter is appreciated.
Thanks ahead;

Outlander-Diana Gabaldon, takes place in Scotland in present time and 1800's, VERY good book, but beware because you WILL want to read the rest of the series!
I just finished The Time Travelers Wife, the author is slipping my mind right now, but that was pretty good. I am currently reading A Million Little Pieces by James Frey, so far it is good but I wouldn't recommend it while traveling, it can be very sad at times.

Oh, another GREAT one I read over the summer was A Crowning Mercy by Bernard Cornwell. Takes place in the 1800's, a bit of a proletariat/commoner love story. It was excellent!

Tale of Two Cities and Anna Karenina are good...pardon, but this seems a very silly thread, given the amount of good literature (and bad)that's been written over the past centuries, and the widely varying tastes of those who read.

Thanks jlm, will check out.

vegas, My sis made me read a million little pieces after the falsifications were brought up. Inspite of my reservations, I did enjoy. Only the strongest of strong could come out of what he or anyone in such desperate circumstances had to endure.

Suzie Oct 10th, 2006 07:04 AM

But if the desperate situations he described were falsified then did he really endure anything much?

Hi Suzie,
Not an expert here, but I think he only falsified the stuff about his arrests. The rest (I think) was above board and confirmed - can't remember though as it was awhile ago. Too bad he felt that he had to flower up a story that was already enough.

He falsified a lot, read for yourself:

Here is a thread with almost 1000 responses that is on the Europe board. It has all sorts of recommendations!
