Good place for waxing
Is there a not so expensive, hygienic place for waxing, pedicure, facial around 57 E street?
Thanks!! |
I don't know anywhere that will be not so expensive for all you want done but J Sisters is right on West 57th at Sixth Avenue. Famous for their waxing.
|
i prefer waning
|
how the heck do you guys know what city we're talking about? must be psychics.
|
I was wondering the same thing. I thought it was New York, then decided probably not. Where the hell is E street? Sounds like Washington. Surely that didn't mean East 57th Street.
Maybe extensive waxing makes one psychic? |
The OP has posted about going to NYC with her husband soon.
|
I am sorry about not giving more details...i was talking about East 57th street in Manhattan.
I am new to this country and to this forum...hope that makes it a little easier to accept my mistake (I realised all reactions have been very strong!!) Thanks!! |
I knew exactly where you were talking about. People here get nutty when you don't put the city in the title and in most cases, the location is quite obvious or easily discernable. Don't sweat it...
|
At least the location of the actual waxing was not mentioned lol
|
Usually the best place for waxing is wherever you may have excess hair that your wish to have removed. Legs, arms, bikini line, etc....
(Sorry, I couln't resist! I've wanted to post that all day! ) :) |
Loki, nice to know that you could figure it out. By the way could you tell me a good restaurant in the location of Plaza Avenue?
|
Gee, the OP has already apologized and said that they are new this country and to this forum, can't we be a little more gracious? Thanks to those who offered a kind response to a new member of our community. I still don't understand why people who claim they don't know what/where the post is about feel that they must answer it; if you don't "get it" - SKIP IT! Acting all befuddled or being sarcastic is pointless. Can't you let someone who has a clue answer it or ask nicely for more information?
I can't contribute to the waxing information, but for the manicure/pedicure you might want to try Bloomies Nails on west 55th st b/w 5th & 6th. Anyway, Welcome love_travel11 I hope that you will enjoy Fodor's Travel Talk! |
It may be a mistake to try to get all 3 services at the same place. When you're going to a less expensive place, they're not always good at everything.
Here's a place that was mentioned in NY Magazine as the best place for waxing. (not nec. cheap) http://nymetro.com/listings/beauty/shobha02/index.html They have a location at Madison & 57 st. They do facials too. http://shobhathreading.com/shobha_contact.html I use the Bloomies on west 55th for man/ped, mentioned by Grantop. They're clean, quick, friendly, inexpensive and open almost all the time. (One of the few places open early on Sun. morning) You don't need an appointment there. They also do waxing but don't know how good they are. |
While we are talking about these things, I would like to know if anyone can give me a recommendation for a place in Manhattan that specializes in eyebrow tweezing. Not threading (not sure what that is) or waxing but tweezing of eyebrows. Thanks and I apologize of I got off the subject a little here.

mclaurie? You usually have some great suggestions, any ideas for ekscrunchy?
|
love_travel11:
sorry i did not mean to be nasty. welcome to Fodors forum and to the U.S. i hadn't read your other posts so really was curious how other people knew for sure which city, just by a street name. :-) good luck with the waxing, by the way! |
Since we've broadened the topic just a little, I would also really appreciate any recommendations for an affordable place near the same area (I'm staying at E 59th and 5th) for a blow-out / hair styling. We're going to an Event and thought about getting our hair done that night, rather than stressing over doing it ourselves. I looked at the J Sisters website, since they're close, but I can't afford those prices ($80 and up!!!)
Thanks! |
Grantop, if people only responded to posts that they knew the answers to... this forum would be a much less busy and much more dull place to visit!

For brows, these are some of the top places
>Eliza Petrescu of Eliza's Eyes at Avon Salon & Spa in New York City. (west 57th st) Robin Narvaez At Borja Color Studio 118 East 57th Street, 212-308-3232 or privately Phone: (212) 371-6378 Phone2: (212) 941-1012 http://www.paulosiqueira.com/ http://www.ramy.com/brows/index.html I always find the search for a cheap blow out a problem. There are very few good cheap ones. There are dozens of salons within a 10 block radius of 59th & 5th. Finding an inexpensive person who's good is another story. Cutler Salon on 57th b/w Park & lexington might be good. Their website says wash & blow dry $45-70 http://www.cutlersalon.com/ According to NY Mag., Paul Podlucky 25 E. 67th St., 212-717-6622 is the guy for an evening event but I'm sure you'll pay dearly. The John Barrett Salon is in Bergdorf's at 59th & 5th but $80 will sound cheap. Pierre Michel salon is on east 57th st. The Elizabeth Arden salon is at 54 st & Fifth. The Avon salon on west 57th. And many, many of the smaller good salons are on Madison Ave. in the 60s-70s (ie. Oscar Blandi salon) |
Thank you McLaurie. According to New York magazine this week, Eliza Petrescu is booked a year in advance (!!??) and the Avon Spa is in the Trump Tower.....I also thought it was in the Avon Building. I will check out your other recommendation, and give Avon a call as well, wherever they are located!
