Good place for warm weather break

We live in the Washington DC area. My husband like to take a long weekend (4 days, 3 nights) to somewhere warm in January sometime. Previously, we've gone to Puerto Rico - there are relatively inexpensive direct flights, we rent a car and go somewhere else on the island other than San Juan and all those resorts.

But what else would work? I like the idea of Key West, but it takes too long to get to, I think. We've been to New Orleans a number of times, don't really want to go there. What about San Diego? I might be able to get a sale fare there.

Any suggestions? We want to minimize travel time, get in some warm weather...

Thanks in advance for any help,
Alice

What else do you want in this trip beside warm weather? Outdoor activites, arts, theatre, galleries, museums etc??

Tucson would be warm during days.

West coast of FL? Tampa, Naples etc.

San Diego is nice but not exactly beach weather in January.

San Diego is nice but not exactly beach weather in January.

You'd have to define "warm". San Diego isn't beach weather in January, but neither is Tucson. Probably mid 60s. That might be warm enough for you, coming from DC, but when I think warm, I think Hawaii!

The weather in Tucson will be beautiful in January (we have been there several times).

I repeat my earlier post, if mid-60s will be "beautiful" and "warm" to you, then Tucson is good. If you're looking for 80s, then it won't be :-)

My guess is, it will take longer to get to San Diego then FL Keys, though.

Anywhere in the Caribbean, St John is my favorite. Also, Grand Cayman might be easier to get to. And of course Bahamas.

In February we are taking the kids to Marco Island to visit family and then on to Ft Lauderdale for a few days with the waves.

Happy planning!

Thanks for the suggestions - and 60s is definitely warmer that it will be here in January. I've thought about other places in Florida but good weather is not guaranteed.

I'll look at packages in the Caribbean and Mexico, those are good ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am currently in Texas, and the weather is just beautiful.

Believe it or not, but on 28 Dec we had 92 degrees in Big Bend Natl Park! (Currently we have 77 in Austin.)

San Diego is nice & the weather has been cool but sunny. It's in the mid 60's this week. Actually I think it's perfect weather for sightseeing - but not beach bathing weather.
What about Cancun? It's closer to you, and it has beautiful water and the Mayan ruins. You can also take a side trip to Merida.
