Good Place for Lunch In SF?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good place for lunch near the financial district that would be open weekends?

I happen to love Palomino for lunch and they are open for lunch both on Saturday and Sunday. It is near the financial center and has a wonderful view of the Bay Bridge, contemporary decor and good bistro-ish food. Most of the "posher" restaurants in the financial district I know of are closed for lunch Sat. and Sunday.

Dim sum at Yank Sing is outstanding. 427 Battery St.

Thanks for the advice Patrick and Betsey. We'll be sure to try both of
these restaurants!

Yank Sing has moved to One Rincon Center which is at 101 Spear Street. Still in the Financial District but new location. The classic old Tadich Grill is open for lunch on Saturdays.

One comment about the Tadich Grill. Ate there a couple of years ago and they had a $25 or $30 minimum charge. There were six of us, with an elderly lady who wasn't hungry and only ordered soup. Although our bill was over $500 including three bottles of good wine, they still charged the minimum for her soup. I would think that the wine should have met the mimimun or that with each of the other 5 ordering about $45 average in food, that the mimimum charge would be overlooked, but it wasn't. When our host politely asked about the charge, thinking under the circumstances it might have been an oversight on their part, we were met with a very haughty "that is our policy and if you don't like it you don't need to dine here!" We won't.

Sorry, I forgot. That was for lunch, not dinner!

Patrick, you're right, the Tadich Grill can have an attitude, but it's an old fashioned SF institution and the fish is great. Another one would be the Fly Trap, but I don't know if it's open on the weekends for lunch--it is for dinner both nights, I think.

A friend and I had dinner at the Tadich Grill a few years ago. We didn't have reservations (not sure they take them) and had to wait for an hour. Later we were seated at a table a few inches from another couple. They got all the service while we were virtually ignored. Guess who didn't get a big tip? I didn't think the food was that great, but perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. I wouldn't go there again. It did have a nice quaint old SF atmosphere.

The Red Herring on Steuart Street is wonderful for seafood! Also, on Saturday you should check out the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. There are a number of great SF restaurants serving breakfast and lunch there, plus you will see all the best produce, flowers and food products that Northern California has to offer. It's a great place to pick up gifts for folks back home and remembrances for yourself.

Honestly.....The ONLY reason Tadich Grill has so much business is not because of great food, but because that's the first restaurant that comes to people's minds when tourists ask "where's a good place to eat?". I've seen & heard so many negative reports about Tadich. STOP GOING THERE PEOPLE....we'll see how quickly their cocky attitude disappears.

SF is a culinary mecca - it's hard to go wrong - be adventurous and walk into the dozens of other Excellent restaurants in the city!!!!
