Good NYC Hotel with 2 Teens

Looking for recommendations on a good New York City hotel for my husband, I and our two teens this July. Maybe around the mid-town area. We need a little more space than one room with two double beds (a suite possibly) and somewhere with easy, casual eating options--especially for breakfast! Any good ideas?!

Anneryan,

We are also going to NYC this summer with two teens. We wanted the same extra room that you describe.

We ended up booking a suite at the NY Hilton which will have a BR with 2 doubles and a separate sitting room with a fold-out Queen sofa.

We were also looking at the Doubletree Suites in Times Square and the Gorham Hotel. The Doubletree Suites has a bedroom with either a King or two doubles plus a sitting area with fold-out Queen. Also has a sm. refrigerator and microwave and 2 TVs.

The Gorham quoted us $238 for a double deluxe suite plus $20 for each add't person. They offer a BR with 2 Queens plus a sitting area with a pullout bed and 2 TVs.

Both these places offer breakfast in the am for an extra charge. Check out http://www.gorhamhotel.com

These are both in good midtown locations. You may wish to search more on Fodor's Rant and Raves or do a text search as I know there are postings on these hotels. Good luck!

I stayed at the Doubletree Times Square last year with 2 teens and it was great - it was a tiny suite - but much larger than most NYC hotel rooms. The rooms with 2 doubles are a little bigger, but we squeezed into the king suite (bedroom smaller) because they are on the times square side and the kids loved the view. it's near everything, the staff was nice, the subway is literally right downstairs and i didn't worry about the kids getting lost because there were so many landmarks for them to find their way back. I'd stay there again with kids.

I stayed at the Doubletree Times Square with my thirten year old daughter and two friends, six years ago. I can highly recommend it. The small suites gave us an opportunity for our own space at night, the refridgerator and microwave gave us a chance to do something other than fast food, or expensive restaurants for some meals. The location can't be beat.

We have also stayed at the Doubletree with two teens, three years ago and it was fine for a first visit. When we went back in two subsequent years we stayed at the Salisbury, a little further north, near Central Park and it's a little quieter, with bigger rooms, same suite set-up. This is an older hotel, but we find it more relaxed and cheaper. Best rates on their website.

The Rhiga Royal is an upscale all suite hotel currently owned by Marriott. There is a diner that is located across the street called the Star Diner on the corner that is great and very reasonable for breakfast. Actually it is downright cheap. Ask for one of the rooms that has been more recently renovated. We have stayed here dozens of times. Many of our friends who frequent New York also stay here frequently.

I stayed at the Gorham in February & can recommend it. Even their basic rooms have a fully equipped (fridge, microwave, sink, dishes & cutlery)kitchenette. Terrific location in mid town west.

Many many years ago i stayed at the Hotel Bedford located on 41 or 40th street between Lexington and Park Avenues. They had really good suites.

quickbook.com has the Gorham for $169 for a regular double room. I think they had the suite for about $199.

Friends with 2 teens stayed at the Plaza Fifty Suites and raved about it. Great location in midtown and plenty of room.

We've just got back from NYC and stayed at NY Hilton in one of the Club suites that we booked thru www.hotelkingdom.com for $150/night with include continental breakfast and cocktail hour.

We both love that hotel and can't be the location-right across from Radio City.
