When you say family, are you talking about kids? What kind of place do you want? Burgers? Fancy? Rockefeller Center is right nearby. The Rock Center Cafe overlooking the skating reink is nice. For cheap and cheerful, TwoBoots Pizza in the food court beneath Rockefeller Center.

It would be four adults.

Well any of the above would work. If those don't appeal, what did you have in mind? Taam Tov is a kosher deli. Here's an article about it from the NY Times

Here's a fun article about 47th st.

Where did you go?

It is a very long sad story. Our son wanted his sister, his Dad and me to help him pick out a diamond ring for his girlfriend as a surprise. My daughter lives in Englewood NJ and we are in Ct. It was decided that we would all meet at the Weehauken ferry. It was a bad day--had snowed the day before. My son fell in the parking lot of the ferry and tore his left pinkie finger apart. We ended up in two different NJ emergency rooms--got it stiched up etc. We were never sure we would make it to the Diamond district. We got out of the ER at 2 pm and finally made our 10:30 am appointment on 47th street. OUr lunch? While he was being stiched up my daughter and I went out to buy sandwiches at I think a Cosi's in Englewood. He did get a nice diamond and subsequently had to have hand surgery this week for nerve damage. If nothing else this is a testament to my family's ability to make the most of a horrendous situation.H

I neglected to mention in my last post that we arrived at the jewelers at 3PM instead of 10:30 am???--but we made it and the ring turned out to be just gorgeous!

Gosh, what a story. Hope all goes well and the girlfriend says YES!

Reeder Mar 7th, 2007 02:37 PM

So do we! He seems quite confident though.

She said "YES!"--and they are happy as clams! The weather was not good but he persevered--got down on his knee and popped the question. He said "She cried, then I cried etc" Funny stuff! It happened somewhere on the Cliff Walk but for some reason decided against the Breakers (actually she had been to the Breakers once before in the heat of the summer and had to wait in line forever-so it wasn't a pleasant memory for her) Whatever spot he chose he loves and now it is "their spot!"

They had a wonderful dinner at Prontos. His father and I had a bottle of champagne waiting, his sister sent a floral arrangement for their table and the restaurant made a complimentary dessert--chocolate ravioli in heart shape. He thought the place was quite intimate with great food and perfect for their special eveining. From my perspective I can't rave enough about the management of Pronto for their very accomodating ways. Thank you all for your help. Oh by the way she absolutely loved the ring and it fit perfectly. h

Congrats to all! Where (which city) did the proposal take place? Palm Beach?

Reeder Mar 24th, 2007 10:14 AM
