Good Luck Florida!

I hope the hurricane skips right past you all!
Thinking about you,
Scarlett

Boy, you got that right, Scarlett. My son just left this a.m. for 5 days at Disneyworld. Yikes!

Last word: they arrived at noon, light rain. Word about town is that it will rain tonight, then let up again. I know I've got my fingers and toes crossed!

Fairhope Aug 25th, 2005 01:42 PM

Scarlett: You certainly know when to leave town!!

Fortunately, this is only a category one. Unfortunately, it is moving very slowly, which means more flooding. But, hey, it could be much worse! Just keep us in your prayers! Thanks.

This is no big deal. Thanks for your thoughts. We are brave pioneers -- and just a little bit crazy. Floridians are glossing over this one -- why fret the small stuff? We're saving ourselves for the Big One.

I just read that two people have already been killed. One person sitting in their car was killed by a downed tree and a pedestrian was killed by a downed tree.

Yes Scarlett, although this hurricane is not headed for JAX you sure got to Portland at the right time.

I don't know how the residents of Florida keep living with these hurricanes, I would think it would be a nightmare.

Hope all of you in Florida are safe!

We're trying to remain calm.

Patrick Aug 25th, 2005 06:28 PM

This afternoon my niece and great-niece (mother and daughter) stopped by with a surprise visit. They are driving from Ohio to Miami where my great niece has a graduate class beginning on Monday. They especially wanted to visit with my mom (grandmother/great-grandmother). They didn't have a clue about the storm coming and I told them to spend the night here, but they became worried about tomorrow being even worse for the drive across the state (which is probably right) so at 4 PM they headed across Aligator Alley. They called about 7 to say they made it. They were in the middle of quite a storm -- I guess so, since it's a category one hurricane now -- but they had no problem.

Ah, youth.

Yes Patrick, youth!!! I would have been staying with you until this hurricane had passed. I am sure glad they made it alright and know how you must have been relieved to get their call when they arrived. Take good care.
