Another vote for Virgil's.

The rest of my party really liked Carmine's although I was less impressed - good atmosphere though.

I just checked Roberto Passon. It looks great and the prices look very reasonable. I think we will do it instead of the other one since you have been there and recommend it. For Saturday night we want somewhere to celebrate daughters 21st birthday, anywhere in city. Good sushi maybe...any ideas?

NeoPatrick sent us to Roberto Passon ...gee was that already over a year ago? I think so - I was looking for a place with THIN veal - well, we have been there five times since and are going to be in NYC the next two weekends in a row and will be eating there again one night pre-theater -

the food is great, the staff is delightful and it is so convenient ! We'll also be at Azafran this weekend and Blue Water Grill for brunch and I am dieting for the next 72 hrs :) and then again the next week to gear up for the next weekend !

Neo, we might have to stop telling people about RP, or we won't get in anymore !!! When I see them this weekend I am going to tell them we need a code word to always be able to get a table........

Escargo, the Blue Water Grill looks great for brunch. We will be at Roberto Passon this Friday pretheater. Maybe we will see each other...you can hear the southern drawl. Any ideas for the birthday?

A fun sushi place for a new 21 year-old would be one of the Sushi Samba restaurants - fun vibe, good sushi, a 'party' restaurant. There is one on 7th Avenue South and Barrow street in the West Village and the other is on ParK Avenue South and 19th Street.

Uga1015, funny you ask that question and someone recommends Sushi Samba! Just a year ago I posted the exact same question, looking for a sushi-type place for my daughter's 21st birthday party. You can probably find the thread if you search.

Sushi Samba 7 was recommended, and it was perfect. They did a beautiful job. Our daughter and 12 or so of her friends had a wonderful dinner with cocktails. They had a big table on the rooftop terrace at Sushi Samba 7. The restaurant treated them really well, comped them champagne cocktails, and served a ton of food. I worked with Monica there, for the private party.

They have two fixed price menus for special events, and Monica tailored it to our daughter's tastes. One young woman is a vegetarian, and she had plenty of choices.

I told Monica I'd spring for two cocktails apiece, and she took good care of the girls. Let me pay long distance by credit card. I'd highly recommend Sushi Samba 7. It's perfect for that 21 year old event!
