Good Denver Coffee Shops/Houses
Hi:
I'm in Denver for a convention this week. Does anyone have good recommendations for non-Starbucks coffee houses? I'm staying downtown at the Marriott but would be willing to walk or use public transportation for a great coffeehouse environment! |
Here's a website that may help--www.denvercoffeespots.com

Jeez, that's a really good question! I'm not sure I know of any downtown. Sixth Avenue has a couple, but I don't know their names, and they would be too far to walk, anyway. Good luck!

Are you looking for an old style coffee house - entertainment, etc. -- or just a place for coffee besides Starbucks?
If you goggle Coffee Denver you will get a number of locations. Also try http://denver.citysearch.com/bestof/winners/coffee It is lists a number of places. An old style coffee house was Stella's on Pearl St but the location in City Search does not match when it used to be. Must have moved. But it has been a couple of years so Pearl St could be gone. Dazbog, several in the downtown area, is a Russian owned and kind of interesting but it is just coffee. Peaberry was our local coffee shops out of Boulder until they were buried by Starbucks. One reminds in the Creek Creek area on 2nd St. Reachable via a 15 minute bus ride. It is worth the bus ride. |
I remember loving my first visit to a Peaberry but they always struggled with consistency, at least at the locations I usually visited. They were more expensive than Starbucks, too.

I'm just waiting for my return flight home and thought I'd share the non-Starbucks coffee shops I liked while in Denver:
Metropolis Coffee: I tried both locations-the downtown on e is less than a block from the Marriott downtown. Both have easy to use free wireless internet and great coffee. I tried the downtown one during the midmornings and occasionally midafternoon and it seemed to be frequented by smartly dressed business people. The other location is in the "golden triangle area" somewhat near the Art Museum and Denver Mint. It was in a much more residential area; I visited during a weekday afternoon and it was not very busy but about 3 to four other people were busy working away on their laptops. Both locations are decorated nicely, are clean, and have great coffee. Downtown: 830 17th Street Denver, Colorado 80202 303.534.5700 300 West 11th Avenue Denver, Colorado 80204 303.534.1744 Other places I liked: The Tattered Cover bookstore also has a coffee shop There was also a place called Common Grounds near Union Station that had a very friendly barista and was pretty busy on a Saturday. |
Thanks for reporting back!
