Good deals for spring break?
 

We're looking for good deals and spring break ideas. We live in Illiniois and could drive or fly if it's a reasonable flight price. We like beaches, national parks or neat cities. We're pretty much up for exploring any new place and just like to travel. We have a 16 year old. We don't have time to get passports so any place that needs one is out. I'm looking forward to hear from you!

This year we are going to San Francisco/Pt Reyes and just crossing our fingers for good weather. It is pretty much a crapshoot anytime in San Fran. Death Valley would be good. We have been to 18 National Parks, and it suprised us the most at how much we liked it. It isn't our favorite, but there is certainly enough to keep you busy for 4 or 5 days. Saquaro or Big Bend would be nice as well. Maybe Miami, do Everglades and Keyes. What about snow skiing. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We love Arches/Canyonlands/Moab area. Might be a little to late for Yellowstone winter activities, not sure though.

What about Puerto Rico? No passport needed! It's a beautiful place to visit and explore and the weather is nice!

Ironically, the most expensive destinations will have the best spring break deals.

Check Hawaii and the Caribbean.

I agree with Tambennett, look into Puerto Rico. We loved it and would highly recommend it. Great weather, El Yunque rainforest, beautiful beaches, the old forts in San Juan, etc. Many years ago we stayed at the El Conquistador resort.

Also in the Caribbean and no passport needed are the US Virgin Islands of St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix.

There are many deals going on for the Caribbean this year.

Unfortunately for the non-passport holders, most of the best spring break destinations are outside the U.S. (mostly because beach weather at U.S. beaches can still be iffy in March and April).

With a 16-year old, theme park trips could be fun, or maybe something like renting a houseboat on a lake for a few days.
