Good cheap restaurants in Waikoloa??

Does anyone know any good cheap places to eat around Waikoloa? We're staying at the Marriott and all the restaurants at the King's Shops will easily cost over $50 for 2 people! Lunch is cheaper, but still ridiculous. We're willing to drive a little ways...

From recent experience, you'll probably have to drive into Kailua town to eat less expensively.

We were just at the Hilton Waikoloa a couple of weeks ago (have been there several times before) and the only thing cheaper than eating on hotel property is eating at the King's Shops (which isn't that much cheaper).

Maybe if you drive into Waikoloa town (on the way to Waimea) you can find some locals type places to eat - but we never stopped, so I'm not sure.

The drive into Kailua is pretty long, though - especially if it's just to eat. You'll probably spend the money in gas in what you save on the meal.

Good and cheap? Pick one. :)

Waimea has quite a few fast food places (e.g. L&L Hawaiian BBQ and most mainland chains, KFC, Wendys etc), along with several inexpensive coffee shops (e.g Paniolo Country Inn, although recent reports recommend eating breakfast or lunch there, not dinner). Also, traffic going into Waimea can be a real bear that time of day (mid-afternoon to early evening).

There's also Cafe Pesto (moderately priced and very good) up in Kawaihae, about 20-25 minutes north of the Marriott.

Waikoloa Village is several miles inland from the Marriott and has a few moderately priced restaurants, although I've never found one I'd recommend.

Lastly, the Hilton has a cheap place called the Boat Landing Pavillion, open for dinner until 11PM. It's definitely snack-bar caliber food, but saves a long drive when everything else locally is closed.

I would definately second Cafe Pesto. Wonderful food, worth the drive. It's in a strip mall 25 minutes north.

Another vote for Cafe Pesto!

i agree, nothing besides subway etc at the kings shops are cheap. Roy's at the king shops have early bird specials and the food is great, but cafe pesto is the best

There is a sweet resturant in Waikaloa Village, The Waikoloa Village Steak House. It is located at the Golf Club. You need to wind around through some condos to find it.
Kailua Kona is 30 miles south with lots of choices. Aloha, Captain Dolphin
