Good, Cheap Eats on the Vegas Strip?
 

Hi there!<BR><BR>My fiance and I will be going to Las Vegas next week.<BR><BR>We are staying at the Mirage and the Monte Carlo, and are planning a couple of very nice (and $$$$) dinners while there, but would like to balance it out with a couple of inexpensive meals.<BR><BR>Are there any places that you would recommend? Someone mentioned America Cafe in the New York, New York Casino. Any comments?<BR><BR>We are not picky, like almost everything, and are just looking for a couple of casual, cheaper places with some good food.<BR><BR>Thanks so much!! :)

Plan on going to Freemont Street (downtown) one nite, get down there in time for dinner and plan on seeing "The Freemont Street Experience" after dinner. Food (in general) is cheaper downtown than on the strip (not worth making a special trip downtown for dinner, but combine the two just to do things "smart")<BR><BR>Also, you can probably order some 2 for 1 coupons to buffets (and probably some $$ off restaurants) from www.billhere.com . He charges a small handling fee based upon weight and number of coupons, so just stick to the bigger savings ones.

I had a wonderful and inexpensive lunch in the Stage Deli in the Forum Shops in Caesars. New York style sandwiches, piled high, great variety and delicious!

I agree with the Stage Deli recommendation. They have great sandwiches.

I'll have to remember "Stage Deli" for next time, as I've never had a decent lunch or dinner in my 4 trips to Vegas. Maybe I've just been going to all the wrong places?

Oh, Suzanne....how is that possible?<BR>NEVER a decent meal in LV?<BR>Vegas is now positively teeming with great places to eat...they're too numerous to even keep track of.<BR>Even the food snobs at chowhound.com rave about many of the LV restaurants.<BR><BR>Where have you been eating, KFC? Taco Bell?

I had an early dinner at a family style diner in Excalibur the last time I went to Vegas that was pretty good. Not much atmosphere but good food and not expensive. There also used to be a 50's style diner at the Stardust that was kind of fun, but that has been a few years so I wouldn't know if it is still there.

I highly recommend the food at the Holy Cow Casino & Brewery, located at the north end of the Strip across from the Stratosphere. Great breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great salads, too.<BR>You're in Vegas, be campy, it's OK!

Hi, Vera! I agree with "thereuare"--go downtown to Fremont Street and try the Seafood Buffet at the Fremont. Its great. I believe it goes on Fridays and Sundays. Also, we've had good, inexpensive meals at the Monte Carlo Brewery and at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe at the MGM. Only had breakfast at the America Cafe and it was OK. Enjoy!

One more thing...<BR><BR>Breakfast buffets are pretty cheap in Vegas (and lots of 2 for 1 coupons available).... go to breakfast about 15 minutes before they stop serving breakfast, because once breakfast ends they start to bring out lunch items. You can then eat a decent sized lunch which would tide you over until a late dinner.<BR><BR>Also, (separately from the above breakfast/lunch advice) DEFINATELY go to Paris for their breakfast buffet (again, for BREAKFAST, NOT for the breakfast/lunch split). It's not that cheap, but it's one of the best breakfast meals going (i recommended it to a friend who is doesn't care too much about food, but he couldn't stop talking about it and went back twice on his trip.)

There's a little shop in Paris that sells crepes. They have a sandwich board in the middle of the walkway, advertising their crepes so it's hard to miss it.<BR><BR>We had a couple of savoury crepes for a tasty and inexpensive lunch. They were so tasty we went back for an afternoon desert crepe a few days later. Also, the seating allows for good people watching.

The buffet at Mirage is very good and pretty reasonable (about $15). The one at Treasure Island is very similar but a little cheaper (they don't have crab legs, which are popular at the Mirage buffet).

The steak and shrimp special at the Hard Rock is tough to beat. Unless, of course, you are a vegan.

IF you are going to spend $15 for buffet at the Mirage -- spend the extra 9 bucks and go to the Bellagio buffet instead. WELL worth the extra $$

Not exactly cheap, but much cheaper for lunch than for dinner is Emeril's restaurant at the Venetian, Delmonico's. Food is fabulous!

We went to the Paris Breakfast Buffet based on many of the recommendations found on this board. While the food was good there was nothing special about it - no better than all the other breakfast buffets in town. At least the service made you think you were in Paris - rude and inattentive. We got there at 8:30, half the tables were empty, and we still had to wait in line 30 minutes.<BR><BR>And forget trying to do a breakfast/lunch split. Either you're there too early and wind up eating all breakfast items; or your still in line when the switch occurs and you pay the higher prices for lunch. Yes, if it happens to work out, then your lucky - but it isn't something you can "plan" on doing.

I agree with Klam about the little crepe place in Paris. We ate there several times during our last Vegas visit. It's quick, light, easy and very inexpensive.....enjoy!

For a casual, delicious breakfast, try the Peppermill down by the Riviera (same side of the street). It's a huge diner with even bigger breakfasts and waitresses who all look like the moonlight as dancers. Great service, great food.
