Good Budget Hotel/Motel in Atlanta

Hi We are coming looking for a familly room for my wife and I plus 2 kids aged 10/12 Good Budget Hotel/Motel either in downtown Atlanta or near a Marta Station . Looking for 2 nites 29th and 30th June. We will have a hire car and would rather not pay $20 per nite to park the car..

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers

See how you can do in the Buckhead - Lennox Square area. There is a MARTA station. It's a safe and pleasant area. Orbitz pulled up a Wingate, Doubletree, Hampton, and Staybridge all under $100 a night close to the station.

Downtown has a Hampton Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn. Pricing will depend on what's happening on your dates.

Scratch the airport area. It's not pleasant and sometimes unsafe.

Allan, I'm not sure what your budget is but I can recommend where we stayed. Hyatt downtown. We enjoyed staying there because we could walk every place we wanted to go. They did charge parking but I can't remember what it was. I plugged in June and it pulled up $132.00 and it comes with a complimenty breakfast. As I said, it was so convenient because we walked everywhere. http://tinyurl.com/ygzpj2a

Can you share what attractions/destinations you plan to visit? That might help a little with neighborhoods. Where are you planning to visit with your rental car? It is possible that you may not want your car for the time in city and could pick it up when you leave for South Carolina.

You ask about downtown, so do you plan to visit the aquarium, World of Coca-cola, CNN, etc. or do you have another reason for downtown?

Downtown Atlanta does have hotels near these attractions as well as in Peachtree Center, but it is not a very attractive place to be at night. So, if you are not attending something downtown at night, it is more pleasant to stay elsewhere and take the train in to see the daytime venues, then return to your hotel neighborhood for dinner and evening.

Downtown there is a Hyatt Place that offers rooms with 2 double beds plus a sleeper sofa. Also one in Buckhead near MARTA station plus mall, restaurants, etc. Under $150.
Doubletree Hotel as well as Courtyard by Marriott Buckhead offers 2 double bed room under $150.
Another area near MARTA that might offer lower rates is Perimeter. It is a busier traffic area more automobile oriented with a mall and restaurants. There are several suite type places around there.

While I do visit Atlanta often, I don't stay in hotels there, so please check reviews on any of these on Tripadvisor before you consider.

at www.hotiere.com you can punch n 2 adults 2 kids and see what discounts there are.

then go to www.betterbidding.com to try to decipher the hotel by its amenities on their hotwire hotel list.

When my daughter was at Emory, we visited often & stayed at the Holiday Inn in Decatur. There are 2, one is an Express. We always thought the rates were reasonable and the location was convenient for going into Atlanta.
Hope this helps.

And Decatur is a safer, livelier evening venue to walk around, dine in or outside etc. And a convenient train station. So I second Kwoo's recco.
