Good breakfast place in NoMad (Manhattan)
 

Hi everyone

Looking for a good place for breakfast/brunch near 31st street and Madison. NoMad area...

Something cozy with good food. The kind of vibe where you might find someone plunking away with their laptop or sitting in a comfy chair reading a book.

Probably too $$$ but the NoMad Hotel offers breakfast. Cozy with great food.

Just FYI: NYC doesn't really do "cozy" breakfast very well. What you're describing is more like a coffee bar, which we have in abundance, but most outlets are not what I'd consider "good" for brekafast. They are busy. And you're not staying in the best place (near Madison Square Garden).

You don't say what kind of food you're looking for, but Le Pain Quotidien is the closest thing I can think of to what you describe, but it's a bit expensive. There are common and small tables, and a lot of people camp for breakfast and coffee.

If you're willing to go a bit further downtown, Cafeteria on 7th Avenue at 18th Street still does a good breakfast.

Hi everyone

What I had envisioned was like a few places in Soho. I have stayed in Soho the last two visits but decided to check out a new area and Arlo NoMad was having a deal.

The Cupping Room, and, a little French place called Maman. Those were the places I had in mind when I was thinking of a breakfast place near my current hotel. I really liked both of those places from other visits.

I have to say I am still more drawn to Soho and West Village so I might change the hotel. I know I'm not in a fun area this time. But I figure it's just an overnight and it is cheap (good deal) and a new hotel. I liked the Arlo SoHo the last time so I know Arlo NoMad will be a nice place to stay (albeit small).

Plus I am taking the bus up, which means the hotel is close to my pickup and drop off point. I will be hanging out on Monday afternoon with a friend who has a small pied a terre in the UWS so being able to say my goodbyes and head down to the hotel to get my bags and still be near the bus pick up point is good.

No problem, my mind reading faculty is a bit faulty.

Unfortunately, there just aren't a lot of SoHo-style places in that area of town. It's a busy business corridor and train station with mostly fast food (and excellent Korean food).

I think you can find what you are looking for in that area. If you walk down a few blocks to just north of Madison Square Park. Think 26th to 30th street from 5th to 6th. There are a lot of new spots that have opened over there over the last few years as the trend in "let's give the area a cool new name" has continued. A good stand by would be Friedman's on West 31st street between 6th and 7th.

I used to stay at the LQ nearby. I agree that there's not much that's warm and cozy in/near Koreatown.

Hi everyone

I enjoyed Penelope. Their food is excellent and plenty of it - I couldn't finish it. I got the monkey bread (think Cinnabon only much better) and gravy over sweet potato biscuits. I sat at the bar which was lucky - the place was packed on a Sunday late morning.

I like the hotel and the location was great for a quick bus trip up and back - maybe a ten minute walk from the bus drop at 30th and 7th Ave. Arlo Nomad - 11 E 31st street. Next visit I'd likely stay there again, it is a pleasant walk to either the Highline or Central Park.
