Do you want to be right in the city or any special location? Do you want a doorman building? Fill me in on what you are looking for and maybe I can help...

Hi Henly,
Right now I'm open to anything. I'd like to be in Center city, manayunk or the main line and I'd like it to be a fairly charming building, hardwood etc. and a studio or one bedroom.

Under $900 if possible. Any suggestions would be a big help.

Or if you have any opinions on doing an apartment search in philly, that would be great too. I'm moving from Washington D.C.

You could easily find a decent 1 bedroom in either center city or the other areas of the city for under $900. You could find something in Manayunk and possibly the main line for that price, but you have to ask yourself what kind of commute you feel like doing. Although for someone who is young and single, your best bets are either the city or Manayunk.

Jodi,

Check out this website. Also, if you happen to be in Philadlephia, pick up one of the free apartment guidebooks which can be found on most streetcorners. Studios in Center City typically are around $700-1100. 1 bedrooms will start at around $1100 and can go up to around $1500 especially in Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square, and Society Hill. Keep in mind that if you have a car most buildings do not have free parking and you will have to pay an additional $150-250 per month to park in a garage. Some buildings such as Park Towne Place have free outdoor parking available and the Buttonwood Square Apartments have indoor parking included in the rent.

Good luck.

http://www.4wallsinphilly.com/?source=overture/

For the Main Line, your best resource is the Main Line Times. You can look up apt. listings on line- www.mainlinetimes.com. Type in specific towns as keywords (Narberth, Bala Cynwyd, Ardmore, Wynnewood, Haverford, Havertown, Bryn Mawr, etc). I think you can even look up Manayunk listings there also.

I think the Philadelphia Weekly is the best resource for center city apts. Around the art museum area you should probably be able to find something in that range.

My step daughter just got an apt. I think it is on the main line. It is a one bdrm for $850.00 a month. it has 2 pools, and is a gated community which is safer. Has a nice balcony, small but cute. It is on the same side as the Adams Mark hotel, on City Line Blvd. Sorry I don't know the name. But $850 is not bad. It is across the street from some t.v. stations. I was there I live in suburbs however. I didn't pay attention to the name of the property.

It's probably Lincoln Green. They are like townhouses and very nice!!! You can walk out your door and there is a bus stop that gets you to the city in 10 minutes. They are more on the modern side, but filled with people in there 20's-30's. Do not waste time by looking at Presidential Apts. They are awful.

Also, before I moved into Center City, I lived in Bala Cynwyd in a building called Edgehill Court. The landlord is Edgehill Associates in wynnewood. They were really cute apts- old, but charminh, hardwood floors, hig ceilings, big closet.

I live in Old City now at the Chocolate Works and LOVE it. Old City and Rittenhouse Square areas have some great places.

My sister lives at this building called the Cosmopolitan on 12th Street and they are really nice also.

good luck.

Thanks for all of your great advice. I looked at the philadelphiaweekly.com listings and they seem pretty extensive. I think I need to just get up there and start looking around.

I also need a job first ;-) That's the next order of business. But I LOVE Philadelphia!!
