good and bad in santa monica

Hi

Are there areas in Santa Monica which are unsafe to walk around? Good, reasonable, safe hotels. Regards
Caroline

Has a reputation for lots of homeless but not unsafe.

Best reasonable hotel in SM is the Embassy Hotel Apartments www.embassyhotelapts.com
(NOT an Embassy Suite).

No restaurant or gym, but super-charming original Mediterranean in a perfect location for walking - two blocks from the 3rd Street Promenade and three blocks from the ocean. Cheapest rooms are around $150. There are also fabulous apartments with full kitchens.

Don't walk around the residential area between Olympic and Pico in the teen-numbered streets.

My parents live a few blocks east of Lincoln Blvd, (about a mile from the beach) between Santa Monica blvd & Willshire. That area is not bad at all for walking around, have walked around that area many times, day & evening, although the only part of that area that you may really want to walk around in is on Wilshire. The other parts of that area are residential & not too interesting. I don't know if I would walk around there late at night, but during the day & evening is fine. I agree with crosscheck on the Olympic - Pico area.

Forgot to add that if you are interested in walking the main street area. Here is a website specific to that area: http://mainstreetsm.com/homepage.shtml
& the Main Street Farmer's Market:

Santa Monica is overall pretty easy and safe to walk around, in my opinion, especially the tourist-y areas.

We stayed at:
http://www.georgianhotel.com/
which has ocean views and w/in walking distance to the Promenade.

Not sure about the safety of the Santa Monica Pier, but either way I don't think it was worth the visit.

Good luck!

We let our young teens go to the Pier unsupervised in the afternoon, not at night.
