gong to maui in june
I will be going to Maui with my husband and 2 teenage daughters in June. We are staying half the time at Kea Lani and half the time at the Hyatt. We would like to go to Pearl Harbor, but are not sure the best way to go about this. Do we need to make airline reservations now or can I wait until I get there? How long will we need there to do the tour? Is it worth going in to Waikiki and if so, how do we do that without a car? Second, since we will be spending the second half of our trip at the Hyatt, I was thinking about going to their luau or is the Leilani luau that much better? Please help.

I would make my interisland travel arrangements now and not wait, definitely. June is a fairly busy month in the islands. We'll be there ourselves in June - Grand Wailea - can't wait! I have been to Pearl Harbor and personally would not go to the trouble and expense to make a day trip there. I would only visit there if I was already planning to spend part of my vacation on Oahu. It's been years since I was there so I'll let someone else address the question of time involved to tour it adequately. It involves a boat trip out to the memorial, etc. With regard to luaus, the Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina is generally regarded to be the best one on Maui and I certainly give it a thumb's up! It would only be a short drive from the Hyatt.

I agree with crazy4hawaii. there is so much to do and see on Maui. My family and I will also be on Maui in june, maybe we will see you all there. We will be there the 17-25, staying at Kamoele Sands just up the street from Grand Wailea. We will however be going over to the Big Island. So if you do decide to go to Pearl Harbor book on one of the small planes (prop planes)much cheaper and you can virtually fly at any time(almost).

We'll be at GW June 5-10 and then over to Kauai for another six nights. You'll be arriving in the Wailea area toward the end of the Maui Film Festival and may see some celebrities! Have fun! |
If you decide to go to Pearl Harbor, I recommend booking your flight now. The rates with Aloha and Hawaiian Air increase as a certain number of seats are purchased (the fewer the seats, higher the rates).
We went to Pearl Harbor last July. We arrived 1 hour before opening time, and there were already about 100 people in line. The way it works is that you wait in line for a ticket which gives you a time slot for the movie you will see before going to the actual memorial. The first group goes to the memorial, while the next group views the movie, and continues like this throughout the day. I would say the movie ran about 15 minutes, then the boat ride to the memorial, about 5 minutes. Your group is allowed approximately 15-20 minutes on the memorial, then you must return with your group when the next boat arrives. I highly recommend getting there first thing; otherwise, you will need to hang around waiting for your time slot. Also, they often run out of tickets mid-day during busy summer months. I wouldn't bother going into Waikiki since you won't have a car. I would get back to the Hyatt and enjoy your stay there. We also stayed at the Hyatt, and wish we had remained on Maui for the entire vacation instead of heading to Oahu. I didn't attend the Hyatt's luau, but did hear others say it was enjoyable. I highly recommend Warren & Annabelle's magic/comedy show in Lahaina. Warren is hilarious, and the magic tricks are amazing as well. You should book any shows you are interested in now, as they fill up quickly. Just check the cancellation policies-most allow 24 hour cancellation, so the risk is minimal. |
