Golfing in Naples
 

Thanks Patrick for your advice, we have reservations at the Inn on Fifth. Strangely enough it was less expensive to get their golfing package, which includes 18 holes, cart, etc.
They offer golfing at Lely's Mustang or Flamingo courses or (per the guy at the hotel, but not on the website) the Naples Beach Club. My husband will likely golf on his own on Friday and I will join him (and really slow him down!) on Saturday.
Which courses would you recommend?

Since Patrick hasn't been able to reply to your question yet, I'll put my two cents in. From simply a distance standpoint, the Naples Beach Hotel is your closest golf course. It's 5 minutes from the Inn on 5th. I would classify it as more of a "midwestern" style couse with some fairways running parallel to each other. It's a nice track, and is well maintained. You might experience less "trouble" here. Not as much water or hazards to deal with. The courses at Lely are a bit of a distance away. At least 25-30 minutes drive out US 41 east. I would recommend the Mustang course over the Flamingo. I just like it better, I think they used to hold a senior event there years ago. If your husband is a pretty good golfer, he might enjoy the Mustang or Flamingo course better as I think they are more challenging. Just my opinion. I'm sure Patrick will eventually answer your question and maybe others as well. Have fun.

Since my one experience with golf was taking it in college and nearly flunking out of Phys. Ed. as a result, I am NOT the expert here. I'm not as a Naples outcast since I don't play golf. There are several of us here who don't -- a very special minority.
Sounds like mollmatt knows what he's talking about. But I've never heard of the Beach Club as being very much of a challenging golf course. And considering its size in the heart of town, it must be a pretty short course as well. It is without a doubt the most expensive piece of "undeveloped real estate" within the city!

Thanks to both of you! I'll try getting my husband reservations at the Mustang on his own and maybe we can do NBC together since that is where my conference is.

After speaking with my husband last night about the 2 Lely golf courses, he, (of course!) had a completely different take on my comments. To him, the Flamingo is the "better" of the two. He said a "good" golfer would enjoy the Flamingo more than the Mustang. Guess I can't be classified as a "good" golfer! LOL.
