Golf workshop/lessons in Scottsdale AZ
My husband adores golf. So, how can we go to Scottsdale and not have him golf. I thought it might be nice to gift him with a lesson/half day workshop.
What I our hotel concierge told me about so far was a 9 hole lesson at Grayhawk for $500, or the same type of thing at another course without the AZ feel for $200. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I feel like i would be nice for him to be on a course that we would not find in another part of the country. However, $500 seems a bit steep. I would also like my son (12 years-old ) to have a half day clinic if possible. He is more of a beginner, while my husband is an intermediate golfer. Thanks in advance for your help. |
$500 per person for a half day workshop seems steep but it is high season.
The economy has opened up a lot of great deals for golf. Maybe your husband and son should go twilight (after 3pm) and play 9 holes just the two of them on a first rate course for around $75 pp with cart. Troon North pinnacle has some good deals and a great AZ course. Here is a good website to check out. Maybe there is a 2 for 1 deal on golf workshop. Don't let the concierge tell you that for only $200 you won't get the AZ feel..such BS! I would go to the GM on a statement like that since Grayhawk is the course they ram down your throat! http://www.phoenixscottsdalegolf.com...-golf-courses/ |
Thanks for the great site. There are great deals at Troon -- but they are on Thursdays. We leave on a Wednesday.
I don't think the concierge meant the statement in a negative way. She was responding to my request for an AZ feel to the resort. Another great deals anyone knows of ? I know it is high season. |

Okay, I was able to reserve a two hour lesson for my husband and son with a top 100 instructor at the Boulders for $280. However, I just learned that the resort is about an hour from the Intercontinental. Is this true? Is this worth it? What golf resorts are closer?
Thanks |
Alright, the Biltmore pro was really nice and will offer a two-hour lesson for $180. It is much closer to the Montelucia and cheaper, but not an AZ style course. Which would you choose? Troon did not have space at the times we wanted. Lastly, McCormick offers lessons at $200 for a 9 hole lesson.
So confused. |
misha2,
Not sure where you are in terms of finalizing your plans, but I suggest you try Wekopa if you haven't already booked elsewhere. It will definitely give your husband the feel of AZ. I live near it and while I don't golf, I do go there to eat lunch. Best view ever from the clubhouse and good food. http://www.wekopa.com/ Also, check out the golf courses in Fountain Hills - there are 4 or 5 of them and it would make a nice side trip for the whole family. Good luck - gem |
The Boulders is a beautiful resort, but yes, it would be about 45 minutes to an hour from your hotel. However, the area the Boulders is in is gorgeous. You could enjoy some time at the spa there while they golf, and then maybe eat dinner or lunch in Carefree or Cave Creek.

Oops. Didn't see this. We just got back. My husband and son thoroughly enjoyed their lesson with the pro at the Biltmore. Sacrificed the AZ feel, but it was great!
