golf resorts in eastern US
 

Hello,
We are looking for recommendations for a nice but moderately priced golf resort in the eastern US. Any recommendations? We're looking for something more adult-oriented, too.

Doral in Miami Florida is fantastic. They have several golf courses, a great hotel and the Jim McLean golf school.

Eastern US covers a lot of territory. Perhaps you need to narrow your choices down a little. Were you also wanting to be on the ocean? In the mountains? And what time of year? December in New England won't be fun, and Florida in July could be HOT, HOT, HOT.

Cheap will be Kiawah or Sea Pines in July and August.

For value, I'd recommend Myrtle Beach. I've stayed numerous times at Legends Resort and once at Barefoot Resort -- both have nice villa accomodations, and multiple good golf courses to choose from. Mid-summer packages are cheap -- probably under $100 per day for golf and lodging. Of course, it can be murderously hot in the summer, and Myrtle is crowded and has little of the charm of other east coast beach destinations. If golf is really your focus, though, and budget is a concern, it might be your best bet.

You can't go wrong with the Greenbrier or the Homestead. Both great golf and gorgeous, but I prefer the Homestead with it's location on top of a mountain. There is so much more to do besides golf, too. I don't play well, but I didn't really care! The courses are fantastic. And I believe that The Homestead has the oldest tee in current use in the US. We have taken our family there, but it is very adult-oriented. Don't forget to have dinner at Sam Snead's place.
