Golf in Kauai and Maui
 

Any favorite courses to recommend? We're spending 6 days in Kauai, at the Hyatt, and 7 days in Maui, at the Four Seasons, but can play anywhere on either island. Thanks!

Right next to the Hyatt Kauai is the poipu bay course. The PGA grand slam has been held there for several years now.

DH has played most of the courses on Kauai. His favorite is the Prince course (there are two, I can't remember which one is best). Second is Poipu Bay. It's very expensive at both courses, but they have cheaper "twilite" rates that start around 1 or 2 pm.

DH also has used something called the "Kauai Challenge" that allowed him to play three courses on Kauai for a reduced rate (you have to play at all three to get the rate). If you google it, you should find it if it's still available.

I'm an east coast golfer, and have only been to Hawaii once. Two years ago, I stayed at the Hyatt in Poipu Bay. We visited Kauai for 5 days, and I played 2 rounds of 18 at Poipu Bay. It was by far the best course that I have ever played. The winds can be tricky, but if you keep it low and play it safe, you will shoot a good round. Unfortunately I thought about this strategy on the plane ride home. For what it's worth, I would play that course over and over again. Holes 15 and 16 are incredible. Just got back from Maui:) We Played 4 times, Maui dunes was allot of fun and not too$$ We also played at Makena north course, fun too and very beutiful. Lots of views, we played kaanapalii south course twice it was ok they are kinda letting it go cause they are giving it an over haul this year, still fun not too bad of shape and after 12 it's 85$ a player

My wife and I both golf, & are doing the same 2 islands, 7 nights and 8 nights, leaving in....9 days! (I'm losing my focus, at work, lately....). We plan to golf about every 2nd day, and want to play the "big" courses. We have played the Kapalua Plantation course before, it is my favourite, anywhere, and we will do it again. (Note: Plantation closes Apr. 1 for renovations.) Both Makena courses are great, we'll try and get them both in again. Wailea courses are also very nice. I have only golfed at Kukuiolono on Kauai, but we will change that this time. We plan to play the big 3, of Poipu Bay, Lagoons Kiele Course, and Princeville Prince Course. Due to the high cost of morning golf, we will be playing a lot of Twilight rounds. Thanks for the reminder, I better get a couple rounds booked, real soon!

Our course hazards are the usual -- but this time of year we also get the nesting albatross, the native geese (nene), and those darn distracting whales breaching out on the ocean! 8-)

My husband really enjoyed the Poipu Bay and Ki'ele golf courses on Kauai.

He wasn't that impressed with the Princeville courses....maybe because they didn't serve alcohol...he couldn't get his cocktail he likes to have while golfing. :-)

Most of the big name course have already been named here, but may I suggest two munis.

On Kauai, the Wailua Golf Course.

On Maui, Waiehu Golf Course.

No fancy clubhouse....just pure outstanding golf. Great design, great views. Wailua is extremely challanging. Waiehu is easier. Both seaside courses. IMO, both are better than many of their more famous kin.

And dirt cheap compared to the others.
