Golf? February?
 

Is there anyplace in the US within a two-day drive from Toronto where it's warm enough to play golg in mid-February?

I've checked the weather in Myrtle Beach and Biloxi and they're both in the high 50s, low 60s and my SO says he's willing to play in that weather but I've heard it can be rainy too.

Any suggestions? We really do want to drive.

Um, not golg. Golf. Although if it's warm enough, we might want to play golg too, even if we have to invent the game.

When you say "two day drive" how much actual driving are you willing to do each day? 8 Hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, more?

Once you determine the amount of drive time you are comfortable with you can figure on an average of 50 miles per hour that will give you some idea of how far from Toronto you can get in "2 days".

Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Kiawah Island (all in South Carolina) St. Simon Island (Georgia), Amelia Island (north Florida) all will have relatively mild (but not necessarily very warm) weather in February), all have plenty of golf, and all are within a 14 to 18 hour "drive time" of Toronto.

Pop in a plane and get down to Florida or out here to SD. :)

You can drive from Toronto to Lorton Virginia (through Altoona PA) in 10 hours. Load your car onto the Amtrak Auto Train and you get off with your car in Sanford Florida the next afternoon.
I am a bit concerned that you may encounter a snowstorm that will prevent you from getting to your golf destination (or getting home).

To increase your chances of getting better golf weather, you probably want to go as far as about mid-Florida, preferably near the coast, maybe between Cocoa Beach and the Vero Beach area. You could make it in two hard driving days, I think.

To insure virtually-absolutely perfect golf weather - fly out here to San Diego - and if we have a rare winter storm - drive 2 hours over to Palm Desert - where it's always sunny. :)

MB is the perfect golf destination and the weather should be fine.

"Should be" is the operative phrase.

I like tom's suggestion of Palm Desert though...

Pardon the golf pun, but SD and PD are one helluva drive from Toronto.

"Willing" to play in the high 50s. Here they play as long as there's no snow on the ground.

vin, it was 80 degrees here last week. The nice thing about the south is the weather could be 50 or 80 or anywhere in between.

It was 82 in MB yesterday and will be 50 on Sunday. 69 and 71 degrees on the days in between. Those are pretty good temps in my book.

Feb. will be very much the same as now (November)

Check out their calendar for Nov. 2012 and Feb. 2013. The historical averages for both months are within 2 degrees of each other and the actual highs and lows are similar as well.

What exactly are we debating here? That MB will be cold in Feb or that MB may have warm days in Feb. I'm lost. ;)

That typical temps in MB are in the 50s in Feb. As I said, if you consider that perfect golf weather, ok.

Thanks very much everyone. If we wanted to fly, the choice would be much broader and who knows? We may change our minds about driving. This is an 'extra' trip though and I don't want to spend a lot on it.

We're willing to drive about 10 hours a day. I've told my SO that it may only be about 50 to 60 and possibly rainy in MB and he's promised not to sulk if it is. Do I trust that promise. What am I, a sucker? Still his intentions are good.

Well, even though Orlando is the same driving distance and seems to be much warmer in February, he seems set on going to Biloxi. Men.
