golf club shipment vs. carry on
 

Has anyone found a company that will ship your golf clubs to your destination for a reasonable price. They're so cumbersome on the airplane. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this and can tell me what they paid.

Firstly, you will not be able to carry on your golf clubs.

They will have to be checked luggage.

I almost never take mine with me because it is a PIA schlepping them around.

I just rent clubs.

The only legitimate way to get the clubs in the cabin with you is to buy them a seat (I've seen it done with musical instruments) since there's no way they will fit in the overhead on a lot of planes.

And have you tried FedEx? They ship everything else.

Why not just check them through. I have just left the Myrtle Beach airport and saw more clubs going through than anyhing. WHAT is the problem. They ain't goin' on the airplane, for heavens' sake.

I use a club bag w/ wheels so it is no big deal. I check it w/ my "wheelie suitcase". Never a problem. Some airlines ask you to sign a waiver when you check the clubs. But, as I have said, there has never been a problem & I have been travelling w/ my clubs for years...& years :)

My husband checks his clubs whenever he travels and plans on playing. Has a wheeled bag and checks it with non-carry on luggage. He'd never dream of golfing without his own clubs...

If you plan to check your clubs, weigh them first. Many weigh over 50 pounds with case etc. You will end up paying big bucks penalty for this.

Never had to pay a "big bucks weight penalty".

The airlines let golf clubs slide when it comes to the 50 pound rule.

I also check in my own clubs - in a travel bag, mine has wheels - it is to me, as easy as checking in your luggage, and you grab it on the other end. They are no more cumbersome than wheeling my suitcase for the short amount of time I have to do that.

FedEx will ship them, if you feel like paying their prices, as I've had skiis shipped to destinations when the mtn wasn't our first stop -but if you don't want to rent, and I am also one who likes my own clubs, and FedEx or similar is too high, then check them in - if you dn't have a travel case, you can buy one fairly inexpensively on line.

I continue to make the mistake of checking my clubs as baggage when I go on golfing trips. It's a mistake not because of the schlepping around, or problems with the airlines. Rather, if I rented instead of taking my own, I'd have a good excuse for when I play badly. ;-)

DH was strongely counseled by Southwest on his recent Tuscon golf trip. They told him they wouldn't let him slide again and to make sure nothing weighed over 50 pounds next time.

check with your local golf shop, you may be able to rent a wheeled travel case to put bag and clubs in.
