Golden Nugget, Las Vegas?
 

Anyone with any opinions on staying at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas? The hotel interior and rooms appear to be nicer than most on the strip and at a fraction of the price ($250 total with tax for 4 nights + $25 F&B comps). Since we will be out and about most of the time sightseeing with kids we're just looking for a really nice place to come back to and wake up in. I realize that the Strip is the hot spot, but is downtown undesirable? <BR> <BR>Most of our 2-week vacation will be spent at other places like the Grand Canyon and Sedona. We figure the next time when we do just Vegas for a shorter visit, we'll stay at Bellagio, Ceasars, or similar on the Strip. <BR>

Your reasons are good ones and you'll likely be satisfied with your choice. <BR>The biggest downside to the GN is that it's downtown. If it was on the Strip you'd have a hard time getting a reservation. <BR>Downtown is worth a visit, all things being equal, but it seems that it is dying a slow, steady death, despite the Fremont Street renovation, etc.

<BR> <BR>I've been staying at the Golden Nugget for years. It's a great place. The rooms are very nice. The casino is well-laid-out. The buffet there is one of the best in town. Kerry is sadly correct about downtown dying a (very) slow death, but, personally, I like it. There are some interesting places to gamble downtown; generally, you can find more single-deck blackjack tables and more gaming tables with lower minimums than are available on the strip. I would never book a room at the Four Queens or Fitzgeralds or, especially, the Las Vegas Club, but I've had some great times (and luck) gambling there. Since you'll be with kids, you might not get a chance for a quiet dinner alone, but if you do get the chance, Hugo's, located underneath the casino in the Four Queens, is a fantastic restaurant. <BR> <BR> <BR>

<BR> <BR>RE: my previous post. <BR> <BR>On the other hand, I don't recall seeing too many kids there. Downtown is different than the strip for another reason: it's really a "downtown" atmosphere. That is, the buildings are close together; thus, the grounds and pools are not features of the hotels. The hotels on the strip have beautiful pools. <BR> <BR>Sorry...I only go to gamble, so I normally don't think of things like that.
