Golden Gate photos
Which is the best location for taking photos of the Bridge. The Horseshoe Bay shore, Vista Point or in the GGNR area or is it easy to get from one location to the other. Can you walk onto the bridge from Vista Point? We have driven across the Bridge but at the time did not have the time for photographs and would be the point of this visit which will be in mid july. Is morning or afternoon better. Any suggestions would be appreciated. .

Best views from any venue northwest or west of the bridge are in the afternoon. In the AM, the sun will be in your face.
My favorite spot for pics is atop the GGNRA on Conzelman. You get pics of the City looking through the bridge, and higher up you get shots over the bridge. You can also get pics looking down the San Mateo Coastline, GG Park, etc. Go around 6 ot 7 in July (hope there is no fog). Can't walk to this spot - you'll need a car or taxi. Stu Dudley |
I like the view from Fort Point:

Often there are kite surfers right under the bridge which are interesting to watch. Maybe not the "best" location but different. Looking towards the city is a nice view as well. |
Thanks dbdurand for the photos , Stu for the Conzeman information (also love your recommendations on Tuscany) and Ronda for suggesting the Fort Point area. We will be staying one full day in the Sonoma area looking for a scenic/photographic vineyard/winery to visit. Any suggestion for a specific one would be welcome. Looks like for our one full day for the coast and the GGNRA, it would be best for us to leave Sonoma in the morning, drive to Santa Rosa and from there on Hwy 12 to Rte 1 and then south along the coast to the Conzeman Road exit. That should put us in the Conzeman area late in the afternoon. We can spend a few hours there before heading back to Sonoma. The next day from Sonoma we will head back Santa Rosa and to Rte 1 for the drive up the coast to Lincoln City, Or. Any suggestions for our Sonoma/GGNRA area visit

Where in the Sonoma area are you staying - the actual town of Sonoma or near Healdsburg/Dry Creek Valley? (which is my favorite region).

I took these on the SF side, in the area just south of where you walk across the bridge. I can't remember the exact location, it was where the bus dropped us off.
I am sure Stu can id it. http://picasaweb.google.com/DebitNM/SanFrancisco2009 |
They were taken near the Gift Center, located in the historic "Roundhouse" on the southeast side of bridge.

We'll be driving in from the Wennemucca, Nv area and are not tied to the Sonoma area, other than a good location from which to visit a California vineward or two the next day. Thanks DebitNM, looks like a strong Italian architecture influence in the facilities and I love it.

Bev, do you live in Winnemucca? I only ask because I met someone from Winnemucca who knew a cousin of mine. Small world if you are her wouldn't it be?
|
That is a very cool site JayZee.
Miraculously found my info on Winnemucca and the gal's name was Irene not Bev, so guess that isn't you. |
Thanks JayZee and Ronda and all the rest. The information provided has been very useful in planning for this area of the trip. I will check this site for further recommendations of possilble vineyard(s) to visit for photographs and a place to stay for our two nights in the Sonoma area. Again thanks and it has been a great help. PS: Ronda, Wennemucca looks like an interesting area to spend some time, however, for this trip its an overnight stop on the drive from the Atlanda area.

ATLANDA, do you mean you are driving from ATLANTA! WOW.
We always like to eat at the Martin Hotel in Winnemucca. Family style, basque food - stick with the lamb. Food is not gourmet, but such an intereting place to eat. You should probably start a new thread on your Sonoma questions. |
Thanks Ronda. We discovered we loved driving trips 6 yrs ago and this is one of the benefits of retirement we realy enjoy. We'll look forward to trying the lamb at the Martin and our brief stay in Wennemucca.

I personally like taking photos of the GGB from Chrissy Field.
