Golden Dollar Coin
 

Am I the only one who likes the new dollar coin? Does anybody else use them besides me? I've never received one as change in a store, and I have to ask for them at the bank. For me anything that costs more than $5 I put on a credit card, so I use change for everything else. Are there parts of the country that use it more than others? <BR>Just Curious.

Have never seen or touched one of these coins. I live in California and travel on a frequent basis all up and down the west coast. Obviously they haven't caught on out here.

They haven't caught on in MN. I like them, but if you want them you have to ask for them at the bank. I haven't noticed *anyone* using them at stores.

We live in Denver, with a U.S. Mint right downtown, but I have never seen a gold dollar in circulation. Got one immediately after they were first minted, but that's the first and only one I've seen. <BR> <BR>I read a news article about it recently, and the authors were speculating about it. The government wants everyone to use these coins, as they last far longer than paper money. But Americans have an attachment to their dollar bills, either as a symbol of America, or simply because a pocket or purseful of those coins is cumbersome, heavy and too much trouble to deal with. <BR> <BR>

The only time I've seen them is when I buy stamps for postcards at the automatic post office stamp machines in hotels in florida and las vegas. i have about 30 of them and intend using some of them for tips etc when i am in Boston for New Year. I like them

I get them in change at my local post office and do spend them. You save a few because of their novelty but then its time to get rid of the excess. They are quite pretty new but they seem to wear and tarnish quickly. I think its just another bad idea from the treasury. The vending machine people haven't made changes for them. <BR>Incidentaly, last week, I spent a Susan B. Anthony dollar as a quarter. Neighter me not the person who took it noticed that it was a dollar.

You must all come to NYC. When you buy a metrocard for the subway, you are given change in the golden dollar coins. I carry around pocketfuls of them. However, after they've been in circulation for awhile, they lose their gold shine.

I get them as change in Post Office vending machines. Never had trouble spending them in Virginia.

xxx, you'll be interested in this - the only US Dollar I've ever seen (and therefore kept it) was given to me in change at the shop in the Denver U.S. Mint! They don't seem to be around in DC or its VA suburbs!

When they first came out, I was getting them all of the time as change (in Northern Virginia and DC), but while reading this post, I realized I hadn't seen any in at least a couple of months.
