Gold Card and Entertainment Book
 

I have seen numerous posts about the discount cards and have actually purchased an entertainment book...<BR><BR>I am thinking about picking up the gold card as well but i have the following questions:<BR><BR>1. Has anyone who has used the entertainment book have any recommendations for Honolulu, Maui or Kuaii? <BR><BR>2. If I have the entertainment book is the gold card still worth while? and<BR><BR>3. I have heard that gold card discounts can vary from week to week and month to month as well ie one week you can get 50% off a certain helicopter flight, while the next you can not, does anyone know where i can get this information?<BR><BR>thanks for all your help.

Hi there- I travel to Hawaii each year. The ent. book is a great value! It is however mostly all oahu and honolulu. When done with it for a week I usually give it to a hotel employee that has been helpful so that they may use the discounts that I didn't. If you won't be in Hon. much it may not be worht it.

Great questions , I too would be interested to find out about restaurants in the GB for Maui and Kauai?

Check out the entertainment.com website. It is an awesome website where you can browse ALL of the books in every city. Since the gold cards are all "city -generic," you can use them in any city! So, if I am going to a new city, I browse the fine dining selections in those cities and use my San Francisco card there.

Hi,<BR><BR>People here are confusing two separate discount cards. The Entertainment book comes with a detachable plastic card that is gold in color but the "Gold Card" is put out by the Activity Owners Association in Hawaii (they have a good web site). When I got this card in 2000 it was mostly good on Maui and worth it for anyone who intends to do several activities such as tours, shows etc...I wouldn't get it unless I was staying on Maui.<BR>That is a good tip though about using my entertainment card in other cities. Don't they punch a hole on the number corresponding to the offer though? You might use up a spot for an offer in your city.

Hmmm! Didn't realize there were so many different discount cards floating around out there! <BR><BR>I think the Entertainment cards are a GREAT value. And yes, they do punch the card once you use it at a fine dining restaurant, but I only use it for 2-3 restaurants in my locale in any given year. So the chances of my selecting a restaurant in another city that has already been punched are minimal:) If it should happen, just play dumb! "Oh, my husband must have borrowed my card...!" Entertainment USED to put city codes on the gold Fine Dining Cards, but they stopped that a couple of years ago. So then, savvy waiters could tell if you were using it "out of range." So, from what I can tell, all the cards are generic now. They've also opened up a whole new world on their website, and it seems to almost encourage "cross-city" usage. (To me, that would be the PRIMARY reason someone would use their website to begin with, assuming they already have the book? Maybe I am nuts! I am in Marketing for a profession, so I do analyze these sorts of things!)I would not encourage buying a special Entertainment book for Hawaii, unless you plan to stay in Oahu the whole time. Get a book for your home city, and use that card over there! Like someone else said, 95% of the listings in the Hawaii book - which supposedly covers all the islands - are for Honolulu.

RE: Hawaii restaurants that take the Entertainment cards...We used ours last year to take one of the dinner cruises in Oahu. It was wonderful! Highly recommend, especially at a 2-for-1 price!
