Going to Portland ME for first time. Dog friendly?
Hi I'm taking my wife to Portland ME for our 1st anniversary at the end of April. The hotel says it allows dogs. I was thinking of taking our Weimeraner. What is POrtland like? Is there cool places to take your dog? Trails etc? Do alot of people bring their dogs there or something? I just thought it was odd the hotel allows dogs.

Also, any other info would be appreciated where I can take my wife etc. We're going to a show there on Saturday night.

Are you staying at the Inn by the Sea? Just wondering as they are dog friendly and the beach is a great place for your dog to run. There are other places by the water for you and your dog to walk - Portland has a walkway along the East End and around Back Bay; So. Portland has one as well that takes in Bug Light, Spring Point Light and Willard Beach; Cape Elizabeth has a nice park at Portland Head Light and another at Two Lights (should be 'dog friendly' this time of year).
Portland has plenty to do and great places to eat. The Old Port has lots of shops, bars and restaurants. Have fun. |
Please tell us about your trip afterwards! We have not been to Portland, ME, for several years, but really enjoyed it on our last visit. Would love to know what it's like now. Esp. with your dog.

We are staying Eastland Park Hotel. Any info would be appreciated. I'm clueless to Portland. Thanks for the input.0

You are across the street from the Portland Museum of Art and walking distance to several good restaurants. Katahdin, Dog Fish (on Free St.), Norm's Uptown (or Downtown can't remember - it's right across from the State Theater), Uffa, Local 188 to name a few. Old Port is walkable if you're fit.

Before you commit to bringing your pup, make sure the dog friendly hotel doesnt have restrictions. We've been caught with weight restrictions (We allow dogs, but only under a 20 pounds) and also some hotels which require somone be in the room at all times if the dog is in the room - not very good if you're planning on going out w/o your beloved pup. Happy Anniversary. We celebrated our 20th anniversary by getting a second pup! I think of it as the fur anniversary.

There is a cool pet store in the Old Port called Fetch (I think). Be sure to check it out. Portland is great. You'll have a good time.

I really can't wait to go. Yes I'll have to figure out the hotel w/ the dog. I think it would be a lot of fun to take her with us. Do a lot of people walk their dogs around Portland?
