Going to Oahu in a week
 

I will be going to Oahu for the very first time this May for 15 days. This is a trip of a lifetime for me. It is a budget holiday of sorts and when I heard of the sewage problems my heart just sunk. I have followed the story and the actions that have been taken to address the conditions as in the testing and warnings. I have chosen not to change my plans. I know that swimming is not all I will be doing but I will take heed to any warnings that may be there. I am extremely excited to be taking this trip and really enjoy hearing about others travel experiences. Aloha!

Glad that you have chosen to take the recent sewage problems in stride and not let it ruin your trip. There are so many things to do and see in Oahu that perhaps you will not even miss swimming in the ocean if you are unable to. I do hope that your hotel has a swimming pool and that will be an option for you.

I will be there in September and can't wait to go back. Enjoy and please post your trip review when you get back.

I had also been watching this story as I will be heading that way in about a week. I read last week that all the beaches were now opened and safe.

I don't know what part of the island you plan to stay on but there are loads of things to do in Honolulu/Waikiki area besides swimming in the ocean.

I really enjoy Waikiki and have been there several times on solo vacations. I'm not an ocean swimmer anyway (perferring a pool) but never have run out of fun and interesting things to see and do in the area.

Head to the north and eastern shores and swim there. The beaches are much better than in Waikiki.

suze, you're so right about not doing that much swimming in the ocean anyway. Most of my beach time is spent on the sand, although I do enjoy buying one of those inflatable mats to float along where the tide takes me...ahhhh....

sparkling one - my daughter went on a budget trip to Waikiki last summer, took The Bus everywhere, and had a great time. So if you won't have a car, this is an option for getting around. She especially liked the hike up near Manoa Falls, got there by bus and took the bus back with no problems. You can also take it around a large part of the island, takes a few hours, but you see a lot for cheap $$!
