I have to admit I loved this post and read parts outloud to my family.

We are going to be sneaker wearing tourists next summer so may well ask some questions that will get NY eyeballs rolling. We promise we will try to do some homework first!

halperp, actually, the majority of Americans do live in metropolitan areas around a large city.

Roughly 150 million people live in or around the 25 largest cities in the US.

Since the last census put us at 280 million people, 150 represents more than a simple majority.

In other words, you can truthfully say that most Americans do in fact live or near a big city.

I love the original post (and NYC!!!)! Witty and sacrastic and light-hearted all at the same time.

I'm an honest-to-goodness amputee who will be visiting New York soon. PLEASE tell me there's really an "artificial limb district." I can't wait :-).

Susan, most artificial limb dealers in Manhattan seem to be concentrated in the 20's and 30's between 3nd and 6th Avenues, but they are somewhat scattered.

Consult a local Yellow Pages for more detail.

Thanks, QC. I truly am an amputee but I was being facetious about limb-shopping (although I do hope my current hydraulic knee and silicone socket liner are still in season this year).

It is fascinating that the limb makers are somewhat clustered together. I'll have to ask my amputee buddies about the history there. Always something new and different to learn about New York.

I have some questions to ask about my upcoming trip to NYC. I don't have the time or the desire to wade through this site or any travel guides. Besides, I hate to spend money for a book that I will only use once.

1. Is it safe to drink the water?

2. I don't have any credit cards, will most places accept cash?

3. Do the hotel rooms have color TV's, and are they free?

4. I've heard that New Yorkers have accents, will I be able to understand them, or will I need a translation book?

5. Are there white tennis shoe police?

6. I need a hotel recommendation. I want a clean safe hotel under $35.00 a night, with a private bathroom, in a good neighborhood. One that gives you lots of those little bars of soap and shampoo bottles.

7. From previous posts, I gather that a lot of people come to NY to buy artifical limbs? Why is that - are they cheaper there?

8. How should I dress to look like a local - I am going to post this on the France board too.

9. Is it true that all New Yorkers hate each other and everyone else? (like the French)

10. Restaurant suggestions? What is the best kind of food to eat, and about how much should spend I for dinner? I want to eat within two blocks of my hotel, as I know that it is unsafe on the streets after 7:00PM.

11. I want to see and meet celebraties. Is it OK to talk to them while they are eating, etc.. If it weren't for us fans, they would be out of work - do they realize that?

12. If I explain to them at the David Letterman show that I am from out of town, will I have a better chance of getting a seat?

The sad thing is the number of posts that are actually even worse than this - and the number of people who won;t get that this is a joke!
