Going to NYC 3/30-4/2 MOMA, Strand, TKTS play, Fish's Eddy, Angelica Kitchen... any other ideas?
Our big 15th anniversary trip is coming up next weekend! We haven't been to NYC in 9 years, but are looking forward to frequenting some of our favorites: MOMA, the Strand, a show (we'll get cheap tickets at TKTS), Fish's Eddy, Angelica Kitchen... any other ideas of places that we should see/ eat (vegetarian) that are only slightly off of the beaten path? We arrive Saturday at 10 and leave Monday at 5. We are very comfortable with the subway. Thanks to all of your recommendations, we are staying at the Sofitel.

Where are you staying? Not too far from Grand Central is a great small Greek restaurant called Ethos. Found it on MenuPages.com and family was impressed.
http://www.sushinyc.com/reviews.asp I love sushi and I know most places have veggie dishes. Genki sushi has a conveyor belt!
I am about to go to NYC so I've been doing my homework. Ellis Island is a great morning or afternoon. Murray's Cheese Shop and Cafe Espanol in Greenwich Vil. are FUN! Little Italy is a great place to eat and explore. Central Park has so much to offer - avoid Tavern on the Green.
I'm from SC, but I love to go to NYC. I have had great luck searching Fodors and menupages. Locals in NYC have been nothing but nice and helpful on my past trips.

We are staying at the Sofitel on West 44th. I've been to Ellis Island and agree that it is wonderful. Thanks for the Greek tip & also Murray's Cheese Shop and Cafe Espanol. I haven't tried either of those. Enjoy your own trip!

Candle 79 is considered by many to be the nicest vegan rest. in the city. Have a look on menupages.com
Do you know about the downtown TKTS booth where lines are often much shorter? Info at tdf.org/tkts

The Frick Museum is my favorite.
Have you done one of the www.foodsofny.com tours? The Greenwich Village tour was the first and I loved it. I'm going to take another one "next trip"
Go to the LES Tenement Museum if you havne't arleady.

Don't be so sure about TKTS. Try the online discounts sites first, like Broadwaybox.com . I think you'll be surprised by the selection and quality. And of course, that way you know you have your tickets and where you're seating.

Just wanted to say ditto on the Frick. It is probably my favorite New York museum. And it's not too big, so you can see the whole thing in 2 hours or less. If you go, I highly highly recommend Via Quadronno for lunch. It is a fantastic and authentic paninotecca on 73rd between 5th and Madison (closer to Madison). Their gelato is better than anything I had in Italy, and I really put in a good effort to find something better. Love their panini's. It's an experience though - can be tight and crowded, and slow service at times, but soooo worth it.
But seriously, the Frick is outstanding. I've been 4 times already!

PS I have to disagree about eating in Little Italy. It is fun to visit, but the food is just not good at all. The restaurants are tourist traps - overpriced and mediocre food. Much much better italian in just about every other neighborhood. However, the asian and chinese in Little Italy and Chinatown are excellent.

I love Le Pain Quotidien - fabulous salads and open face sandwiches. From what I remember most of the food is organic and I think they have many vegetarian options. The portions appear small but are very satisfying. There are 3 or 4 throughout the city. www.lepainquotidien.com
