Going to Niagra Falls and want to visit Cooperstown....

I have a friend who is going to Niagra Falls and she wants to take a side trip to Cooperstown to visit the baseball hall of fame, she says there is no direct train. Can you suggest the best way to get there, should she stay overnight, etc?

(they are staying in Ellicottsbille New York - one hour away from Niagra Falls)

Thank you,

Rail travel is not practical. Neither your friend's origin nor destination are served by Amtrak. Ellicottville to Cooperstown is a four-and-a-half- to five-hour drive one way. If she chooses to do this at all, there are many, many bed and breakfasts in and nearby to Cooperstown. We stay, during the Glimmerglass Opera season, at The INn by the Mill in St. Johnsville, about a half-hour drive from Cooperstown. http://bit.ly/9DWTfj

Unfortunately, Cooperstown can't really be considered a "side trip" from Niagara Falls. It's farther from Niagara Falls to Cooperstown than it is from New York City to Washington, D.C.

It's not that there's no dirct train - there's no train at all. Amtrak service is very limited. they need to either drive or take a bus (and I have no idea what route the bus would take).

Agree this is not a side trip - it would be an overnight.

Separately, can't imagine Elicotville (is there reallly such a place) is any good for visiting Niagara Falls - you need to be on the Canadian side to see the best of the Falls and other sights.

Sorry, I meant Ellicottville, NY

Ellicottville is where their timeshare is located and it was the closest they could get to Niagra Falls.

Your information is very helpful, thank you.

Ellicottville, NY is the perfect rationale for people not buying time shares. Frankly it is at the end of hell and gone - and not really near anything anybody would really want to see.

(I have never understood this time share thing, since every time I red about one it is either 1)not within 50 miles of anything or 2)desperately overpriced and undermaintained.)

Free lodging is usually worth what you pay for it. (Except major chain point programs that let you stay in real vacation venues.)
