going to LAX on may 1st
After months of research and planing our vacations starts on may 1st. What a luck!! Is anyone concerned about going to LAX and travels on that day. All I needed was another worry before we leave for our vacation. I hope every thing goes smoothly.
|
come on people. Am I the only one traveling out of LAX on may 1st?
|
I would be surprised if the "immigration lock-out" would affect flights. (I am assuming that is what you are referring to.) Most that work on the ground have to get a very high security clearance and I would hope that everyone on the ground monitoring the aircrafts are of legal status. Could be wrong, could be some that are not. Whether they are or not and perhaps are thinking of staying home that day to support others, I am sure that the airport is ready with replacements if needed. I would also think that those that do have this security clearance job wouldn't risk losing it as well. I think if there is any problems it might be more with the restaurants/refreshment places inside. (although I believe they require clearance as well.)

Guess we will have to see what happens, pretty curious about it myself. I know they have been discussing it alot on our local news because the major hotels have several hundred housekeepers each and most of them are of Hispanic nationality.
Have to wait and see! |
Well, I hope and paray for the best outcome. I just want to get out of LAX.
|
Just leave yourself plenty of extra time, especially if you are flying internationally. The TSA procedures at the Tom Brady Terminal are horrendous on the best of days.
I believe that the "marches" will be downtown, not near LAX. However, I have heard rumblings of disruption of airport and port operations, so who knows? Spanish Language television and radio are probably the best sources of information. |
Don't worry about it, MrsJJ. Everything will be fine. Just focus on your trip.
|
Thank you every one. I try to stay positive, stop watching the news and dream of Paris.
|
not to hijack this thread, but how long on average do you think it's necessary to arrive at LAX before an international or national flight? I've read that LAX keeps losing TSA members, and wonder how smoothly things are running there on an average day.
|
I don't think there is an "average" day - well of course there are averages but you just never can tell.
I've gotten through w/o virtually no security line at all, and and taken over 90 minutes other times. So it seems to be chance . . . . |
You should be more concerned with Paris as May is usually the bussiests strike month in France.
Have a great trip! |
Great point, AAFF. If you want civil unrest and immigrant problems, you will love France. It makes the U.S. seem like nirvana.
|
True enough - be very glad you aren't landing in Paris on May 1. By the 2nd things will probably have calmed down.
