Going to Kauai
 

My girlfriend and I are looking for inexpensive fun and interesting things to do on Kauai. I have searched the net and I'd like to have some other ideas from real people and not salesmen. Any suggestions?

go and take a surf lesson with ' learn to surf' in Hanalei Bay! We finally managed to stadn up on our boards and surf !!!! Highly recommended.
go to the 'end of the road' and spend time on the beaches!
Have breakfast at Java Kai in Hanalei. if you go there twice the locals will greet you.(at least that's what happene dto us- and everybody was very friendly!)

Fun, interesting, inexpensive... hike, snorkel, beach hop, explore, drive to Waimea Canyon and Kalalau... really, your whole trip can be inexpensive depending upon your interests.

Definitely drive to Waimea Canyon and hike and drive around the canyon. We used the "blue book" as a guide. My husband and I stopped at a Subway shop, packed a picnic lunch and spent most of the day in Waimea. On the way back to Poipu, stopped at JoJo's for delicious shave ice. An inexpensive unforgettable day!!

Besides the other things mentioned, such as driving and hiking around Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park and snorkeling North Shore (when are you going, sometimes the surf gets high in winter), we also liked the Limahuli Gardens on the North Short, one of the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. Think it is $10 or $15 for the self guided tour, a little more for the guided tour.

Add to the list Kilauea Lighthouse and the pier at Hanalei Bay. Grat giftshop

Pick up some ahi poke at the Hanalei Dolphin fish store and head out to the pier for sunset pupus.

There is a great little (and I mean little) bookstore behind the Hanalei Wake-Up cafe that has a great selection of island books.

Eat at Hamura's Saimin in Lihue for the best value on the island. Get some lilikoi chiffon pie to go and eat it at the beach while watching the stars.

Kilohana Planatation

Find out when the free Hula shows are at the Hyatt. They usually local schools perform. They are great and it's free.

At the Poipu Shopping center on Tuesdays or Thursdays or both there is a free hula show that is VERY good.

We sat by the pool at the Princeville Hotel one night and watched a hula show in the bar there. It was great and it was free too.

The guided tour at the Allerton Gardens was fantastic. I think it was $30 per person.
