Going to Houston - What to Pack???
Hello,
My husband and I will be travelling to Houston, Texas in the next few weeks. Having never visited Texas before, we are not quite sure on what to pack!!!! We plan on visiting Galvaston, San Antonio, Dallas, as well as the Houston Rodeo. What can we expect in terms of the weather? Are the days warm and the evenings cool?
Any suggestions/tips on what we should pack would be appreciated. Thank you.

My advice to you is check the weather channel or www.weather.com close to packing time because weather in South Texas this time of year is hard to predict. In San Antonio yesterday the temp was close to 85; today we're in the mid 60's. It's possible you will enjoy warm days and cool nights but if a cold front blows through it could get quite nippy. Layers are a good idea this time of year. I hope you enjoy a nice trip!

We go to Galveston every year in February or March. It can be quite warm...even hot. I usually only bring 1 pair of shorts and wear capri pants the rest of the time. Bring a cotton sweater and a wind layer for cooler days/evenings. It can also be downright cold...so bring a pair of long pants, too. We compare it to May in the Midwest. We LOVE Galveston!! Have fun!

For the rodeo wear jeans and a western shirt. Don't forget to shout Yee-Haw!
Serously, in late February or early March the Galveston, Houston and San Antonio can be pretty mild. Dallas is likely to be a bit cooler but still fairly comfortable during the day. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and I rearly need a winter jacket (don't even own an overcoat). For what it is worth we have maybe 5 or 10 days of very cold winter weather, long hot summers and the rest of the year is like spring or fall. AnnMarie_C's advise to check weather.com a few days before your trip is a good one. It's the only sure way to get a feel for what the temperature might be. Keep in mind weather forecast in Texas are no more or less accurate that the ones you get "back home".

AGree with rec to check weather.com but also recommend you take the forecast with a grain of salt - our weather is notoriously unpredictable. Your best bet is layers. Evenings have been pretty cool but daytime temps range from 50s to 80. On the beach in Galveston you will also get a cool sea breeze.

Layers are a great suggestion. Prepare for warm days, as in walking shorts, which can turn rainy and cool within hours. You just never know on the coast during Feb & March. Hope you enjoy your trip!
