Going to Cedar Point Ohio
 

My family and I are going to Cedar Point for 2-3 days this summer. I can't seem to find one hotel that hasn't gotten terrible reviews! Help! Price is not an issue, I just to stay someplace really nice. Thanks!

Better yet just bite the bullet of whatever may come and stay on the park property hotel for no other reason than to get in 1 hour earlier than the public and get on rides you may not otherwise get time to do.

Keep in mid that some people are foolish. and thus complain that the $2.00 an hour cleaning person stole a million dollars that they left laying in plain view on the dresser where some people leave tips.

Keep in mind that some people feel that if they are spending more than $20.00 a night then by golly I had better be treated like the crown prince of Cornville Nebraska and when the college kid behind the desk is not terribly impressed then the hotel is obviously a rip off.

If price is truly not an object then you can afford places that will not disappoint but if as I suspect, you are trying to find the best overall deal then stay on the park property

We stayed at Castaway Bay last year when we went to Cedar Point. Yes, it's a total kids indoor water park hotel, but it rained when we were there and it was a life saver for what little time the kids actually got to be at the amusement park!

The newer section of the Breakers is supposed to be pretty nice.

I agree that there are many really bad hotels near Cedar Point. On the hotel website, be sure to check the date that they were built or refurbished. Be sure to book a newer hotel--they get used really hard. Check out trip advisor too. I do believe that there is a decent Comfort Suites nearby.

The Kalahari is the newest "waterpark hotel" but it seems silly to spend the money on the waterpark hotel unless you are going to spend some time there. Perhaps one day at Cedar Point and one day using the waterpark at your hotel?

Cedar Point has just finished building their 17th roller coaster. They showed a "virtual ride" on the news last night.

The Breakers Express is just outside the gates, and like a Disney value resort in terms of quality. Since you'll essentially only sleep there, we've found it more than satisfactory.

Also, theres a newer Holiday Inn Express about 15 minutes away off Route 2 in Vermilion, on SR 60. Its more of a drive but may be an option if everything is sold out.

Thanks all. Yes, I checked on trip advisor, which is why I got so freaked out. Hardly anything positive about anything! Good points sobolik. People do like to complain. Although, I hope the hotel staff recognizes that I AM the crown princess of Cornville Nebraska! :)

The worst thing about The Breakers when we stayed there a couple of years ago was some of the other guests!

Things such as pulling the fire alarm three different times during the night and allowing us to troop out into the blackness.

BUT, it is CONVENIENT for the park, that's for certain and we thought worth it.

We live close to Cedar Point so we've never needed a hotel but we have walked to The Breakers to check it out and I would definitly stay there. You go out the front and you're right in the Park, you go out the back and you're on the shore of Lake Erie, they have 3 pools out there and a large sandy beach. You would have no traffic or parking problems!

My family often goes to Cedar Point every summer. Since you are going in the summer as well, I highly recommend staying in a Cedar Point hotel, as you get special privileges: early park entry, shorter commuting distance. You are also completely bypassing traffic congestion. Since price isn't a huge issue for you, the best place is the
Breakers. Pay the little extra for the newer section or the tower. Many parts don't have A/C, and they are quite dated. The Breakers is also the closest hotel to the park, with an entrance right outside the door. ANd don't forget the "2-Day Ride&Slide Pass". We always get one. They're a great deal, and you can take a break in the water park if the temp starts getting high and the amusement park gets a bit crowded.

If price is not a problem, the only way to go is Hotel Breakers on the property site.

You get to get into the park an hour before the general public and ride probably Maverick (the new coaster), Millennium Force (the No. 1 Seel Coaster in the World), Top Thrill Dragster (120 MPH in less than 4 seconds, 400 feet straight up and 400 feet straight down after the incredible launch), plus maybe some other rides.

We always stay there when our budget allows. The rooms aren't what you are there for, you are there for the park, and it is one of a kind. It is the best amusement park in the world. But be ready to stand in lines, and I mean lines.........

There is a cheaper place called Breakers Express about a half-mile down the road, which also offers you early entry but you have to pay for parking each day.

Enjoy this gem of a park. There's really no way you can't enjoy, but be ready to stand in lines.

Thanks again everyone. So, it looks like the Breakers is a nicer hotel than the Sandcastle Suites. And the tower section is the way to go. We're definitely getting the multi park pass, as we're hitting Kings Island too. It's going to be a Coaster holiday!

Hi,We just got back from Hotel Breakers and Cedar Point.The hotel is very convenient to the park and you can get in an hour early.The tickets at the desk are $10.00 less than at the gate.
It's an OK hotel.Nothing to write home about.I think the best thing about it is the location and early entry into the park.Everything else about it is just average.
I found the restaurants at the hotel and in the park to be very pricey!
We got the 3 night package and it really is a good savings if you add everything seperately.
We did have a blast at the park and it was easy to come back to the hotel for down time when we wanted.

We went to Castaway Beach last weekend with 3 kids (4-14) and it was a blast. I had read some uh oh reviews on it but it was nothing bad at all. We will be going to Cedar Point end of June and will def stay there again. For the price, the extra indoor waterpark (its HUGE) not like most indoor ones at all. I wouldnt stay at Breakers again not even with the 10$discount. IMHO Castaway Bay is the best place to stay and fun for everyone. Where else can you lounge on a reclining chair with a beer and haagen daz and not worry the ice cream will melt??

Enjoy the Point. We always stay at the Breakers. The extra hour in the park and the ability to walk back to your hotel room in the middle of the day is so worth it. For those for whom price is an issue, they have a small number of rooms in an older section that rent for about $100 a night for a double-double. They are very old, but they are air-conditioned with a window air-conditioner. You have to actually ask specifically for their cheapest room in the old section of the breakers when you call. It actually works out to be less than the Breakers Express because you have to pay for parking if you stay there.

Try the Kalahari Waterpark Resort---rated #1 in Sandusky we have stayed there 2 times and we love it Our grandkids like it better there than Disney World---beautiful rooms and restaurants and the waterpark is great.

Here's an update on where my 3 kids and I stayed the last 2 days for our Cedar Point visit...

First night in the older section of the Hotel Breakers, third floor. $175 for a lake view room (before taxes). Halls not air-conditioned, no elevator, room dated in decor but with A/C. Room, sheets and bathroom clean. We only slept there so the view, the ticket discount and getting into the park early made it a worthwhile stop. After checking out and roasting in the 90+ weather all day at Cedar Point, we went back to use the pool and then ate at Fridays (on property). Another bonus: it was great to be parked right there all day and not walking through a huge parking lot to get to the car after a long day.

Second night (since there was no more availability at the Breakers), we had a reservation at a Breakers Express 'A-Frame'. (no more rooms at the hotel) We checked into the hotel and went back toward Cedar Point about 1/2 mile to a row of about 10 tiny A-Frame cottages, all in a row. They look old, and are. Decorated like someone's great-great-great-grandmother's house - mostly dark browns with a stunning touch of harvest gold in the bathroom. Entered into a living room/kitchenette area. Sofa opens to a double bed. Bad mattress (thin and dipping in the middle), but my 17 year old son loved having the whole area (and TV) to himself and didn't seem to notice. Kitchen area was SPOTLESS! The refrigerator looked brand new - like it had been delivered that day. Old bathroom - does the color tell you anthing? - but very clean with more towels and soaps and shampoos than I've ever seen in a hotel room. Loft with a twin bed reached by a tiny tiny spiral staircase. A bit warmer up there with the 90 degree weather, but my daughter did fine. Finally, the back bedroom had a very comfy bed and, the best part, had a deck/balcony which looked over a canal. I spent about an hour there watching the geese and gulls coming up for food being tossed by people in a neighboring cottage. It was quiet and peaceful and so hard to believe that the other end of the cottage was on the highway.

So there were 2 ways to look at this A-frame: butt-ugly! OR quaint, very different and sort of fun for a change. If they ever renovated it, it would have been great. Anyway, we chose to enjoy ourselves and ignore the decor. It was nice to have all that room (for $145 for the night) and a relaxing place out back. You must drive to Cedar Point and still pay the parking fee, but there was no traffic to the park between 9 and 10 am out front.

We had a great time at Cedar Point - my son rode all the adult roller-coasters and loved it. This was just a short break during a college visit trip to Oberlin.

My younger kids are suggesting (or is begging a better word?!)) that we go back next summer for vacation. Since we will have 2 kids in college that following year, flying somewhere is not looking too good financially.

The Kalahari Resort is the nicest--have stayed there for the past 2 years. It isnt cheap though---but worth the extra cost.

I've lived less than 5 minuets from Cedar Point my whole life and can tell you it's fantastic!

I can't even tell you how many indoor water park have been built in the past 5 years. Staying at one of these is also a plus if it rains on one of your days.

The Castaway Bay used to be a Radisson Inn Hotel and the rooms are very nice. (used to work there in high school). The new Kalahri is BEAUTIFUL!! It's amazing just how big it is and how much you can do. The Big Wolf Lodge is also another great one too.

That's not even all of the indoor waterparks in Sandusky. But if you're looking for convience, try the Breakers...for me it's always had that old time charm and my grandma worked there when she was young. Also if you're looking for a good sit-down dinner, try the itailian restraunt inside the Breakers....we used to go there for dinner some nights.

I could go on and on and on about how much I love Cedar Point and how much stuff there is to do there. If you need any help at all, please let me know!

We love Cedar Point! We visit when we visit family in Michigan. Thanks for all the great tips. We have never stayed over night just do the 2 hour trip each way, leave early get home late, next time we may spend the night!
