I suppose this is cheating, but it will help you get a welcome from another state. I called my friend in Arkansas to tell her about your post. She is not a Fodorite so she can't post it herself, but she says Arkansas welcomes you.

Maine is a huge state with many towns whose residents come from the French Canadian provinces and French is spoken !I'm sure your ear would eventually adjust ;-) !
