GNP activity reservations
We will be arriving at Many Glacier hotel on 6/22. We may take a red bus shuttle, a couple of boat rides etc. What my question is-----is there anything "not to be missed" that I should make reservations for before we arrive?

Well...you're arriving fairly early in Glacier Natinoal park. The Going to the Sun Road, which connects the east and west side, and one of the most scenic drives in the country, is scheduled to be opening up a few days before you arrive.
You shoudn't have any problems making reservations for the boat rides, unless you plan on doing one of the ranger led hikes that involves the boat ride, like the one that goes to Grinnell Lake -the hike up to Grinnell Glacier probably won't be open that early. The ranger-led hikes themselves are free and you don't have to make reservations for the hike. I would check on making boat reservations a day or two before the hike. http://www.hikinginglacier.com/grinnell-lake.htm There are plenty of other ranger led hikes that will be available at that time, you can check the schedule which has been posted on the nps page: http://home.nps.gov/glac/planyourvis...activities.htm You may want to consider taking the Spring Wildflower tour with the Glacier Institute. There is a fee involved and you would need reservations: http://www.glacierinstitute.org/ Not sure about the Red Bus tours, especially if you want the one that goes to Waterton. You may want to check with them in advance. |
You WILL need reservations for any Red Bus tour. Other than that and the boat ride mentioned above you should be ok.

I find it much easier to deal directly with the boat company than Glacier Park INC. You will have to deal with them on your red bus tour. I have a reservation on several boat tours, red bus tour, and afternoon tea for last week of July.

Thanks for your responses. I will probably make a reservation for the red bus tour. Spirobulldog. I read your trip plans a few months ago and bookmarked them. Now I am using them to build our trip--thanks for the great suggestions.

Just to clarify. The Red Bus is not a shuttle. It's a tour.
