Glorietta Bay Inn/Coronado
Wanted to know if anyone can comment on the Glorietta Bay Inn. We are staying in there two bedroom suite. We are going with our children and looking for a quiet family oriented place, near a beach. If anyone could comment, it would be appreciated.

I tried the search function for "Glorietta Bay Inn Coronado" and quite a few posts came up, some actually talking about, and highly recommending, the Inn.

Our extended family would stay there every 4th of July weekend for most of the 1990's. The main building is the old Spreckles mansion. It's got a great feel, and Victorian style. There's a small patio that's nice for afternoon tea, or morning breakfast.
The rest of the hotel is much more modern. The rooms were plain, but clean and functional. They won't win any style awards, but we loved the location right across the street from the Del and the beach. It's also just a short walk to the main strip of restaurants, bars, and shops. We had lots of kids and young adults in our group, and the hotel was very accomodating. With lots of kids there, I wouldn't say the hotel's quiet (especially by the pool during the day). However, it wasn't loud at night. |
Friends of ours in Phoenix stay for a week each summer at the Glorietty Bay Hotel. We visited there once and resolved to stay ourselves in the near future--it's a lovely place.
The suites with 2 bedrooms and a mini-kitchen are great for families; those are in the modern section. |
i use to live in san diego and thought that if i ever go back, i'd try this place. it is in a great location and looks very nice from the outside. the reviews on tripadvisor.com are very good.

Underhill, do your Phoenix friends stay for the week over 4th of July? Many of our group were from Scottsdale & Paradise Valley.

Thank you for the replies. I was also researching Hotel Del across the street. Is it really worth the crazy rates they charge, not to mentioned the insane parking and surcharge which adds up to $38/a night extra on top of the room rate? It might be, but it would really have to be something extremely spectacular. Is it??? Any comments and opinions on The Del? THANKS AGAIN!!

The beach, grounds, patio bar and lobby of the Del are great. However, they're all open to the public. Staying at the Glorietta made much more sense to us, and we hung out at the Del a lot.

I was wondering why people mention that it is a bonus being across the street from The Del. So, can you go there to rent things such as umbrella and chairs for the beach at The Del? If that's the case, I am definitely staying at the Glorietta Bay where I can have a two bedroom place vs. a standard room for almost half the price. Thanks again for your info.
