Glacier NP - Driving from Rising Sun to Two Glacier

I know it's about a 1 hour drive.

What's the road like?

And on the topic of freaking me out, how about from Many Glacier to Rising Sun?

I'll deal with GTTS Road later.

I'm the one who thinks the yellow line is meant to straddle. That may be a problem on GTTS Road.

Do you mean from Rising Sun to Two Medicine?

It's not bad. It's an older road, and it's a little narrow, but it's not really steep.

GTTS, on the other hand, is more interesting! It's also absolutely beautiful!

TYPO!!!!

Yes, I meant Two Medicine and not Two Glacier!!!

When do you expect to see the yellow line? I'm hoping to be able to drive GTTS on June 1.

Tom, I hope you can. GTTS didn't open until July 13th last summer, but I think that's the latest it's every opened. Glacier has had less snow so far this winter, so hopefully it'll be open by June 1st.

It's a pretty normal road and drive. Nothing to be worried about.

We did have the good fortune to see a herd of wild horses (or freely ranging horses) and a red fox hunting on the drive. We stopped to take lots of pictures of both.

I highly recommend taking a jammer tour on GTTS. I have driven it before (on July 4th many years ago and it snowed on us!). Last year we took a tour - with a pickup at Lake McDonald Lodge - and it was a MUCH better way to enjoy that gorgeous drive. Everyone - incuding the drive - and relax to ooh and ahh at the scenery. HIGHLY recommend riding in the historic jammers -

I'm planning on early August so not only will the roads most likely open but they will have painted nice yellow double lines for me to straddle.

Please don't drive on GTTS if you plan to straddle the yellow line.

Thanks in advance.

starrs,

Put a sign on the front of your car so if I see you approaching I'll stay on my side of the road.

In case you were wondering. Although these roads freak me out a bit, I do stay on my side. Most of the time.

"Put a sign on the front of your car so if I see you approaching I'll stay on my side of the road"

Just stay over there and there will be no need for a sign ;)

Seriously. Take a tour in a jammer. It makes the GTTS experience SO much better for you. (and safer for other drivers) :-)

OR, use the FREE shuttle bus on the GTTS Road

Second gear going downhill is your friend. Keep your foot off the brake and off the gas, and you will stay at a reasonable speed for the road.

We made t ia full day from Many Glacier Hotel down to St. Marys then onto GTTS Road and ended up in West Yellowstone. Driving was fine but we stopped zillions of times for pictures, lunch, hiking up Continental Divide, etc. One of the best days ever.... don't rush it.
