Glacier NP Accomodations
 

Any recommendations for decent accomodations in or near Glacier NP. I understand the whole bit about rustic NP lodges but am not quite ready to encouter mice in my room! Anything close by and kinda nice? Thanks!

Check out VRBO for rentals. I agree with you about NP cabins and rooms.I was just looking at VRBO a few minutes ago for Glacier and there is quite a few places available that look nice.

Kalispell has a Hampton Inn that is only 3 years old and a new Hilton and a new Holiday Inn Express both less than a year old along with smaller Mom and Pop motels. Big Mountain in Whitefish also has room in lodges for rent.

I've never run into a mouse in a National Park Lodge. I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand. They are well located, have interesting ranger programs and neat people. They usually have great lounges with big fireplaces.

Years ago, when I was young and poor, my boyfriend and I were camping our way across the US and were hoping to stay in one of the campgrounds at Glacier. There was some sort of bear alert, so they weren't allowing tent camping. Since we were going to have to sleep in the car anyway, we decided not to pay to take up a space in the campground and opted to sleep in the car in the empty parking lot near a visitor's center. The Park Rangers shined a flashlight through the windows in the middle of the night, rousting us and they made us move on. We drove to the parking lot of the Many Glacier Lodge, where our car was in a sea of cars, and slept there inconspicuously. In the morning, we went into the Lodge. It sure looked like heaven to us. The waiters all sang instead of talking at dinners, I believe. I wonder if it is still the singing lodge.

In the east part, Swiftcurrent motor inn, the motel rooms are quiet, clean and "miceless" in my experience...and
you are directly in the park, at trailheads of a lot of trails...
In the west part Village inn in Agpar have the same type of rooms...
Now, if you like drive miles for nothing you can sleep outside the park...but for me, not in the spirit of a "natural" national park : each
gallon of gas economised is good for the preservation of the few glaciers remaining there...

We stayed at St. Mary Lodge and Resort which has several different types of lodging available w/varying prices. We stayed at the Pinnacle Cottages, the nicest but most expensive lodging available there. I reviewed it for Trip Advisor, Link: http://tinyurl.com/5o886y. The Great Bear Lodge is also nice.
