Glacier Dog Sled Tour

We'll be visiting Seward the end of May and are thinking about doing a Glacier Dog Sled Tour. They take you via helicopter to the area and you actually get to drive a dog sled. Has anyone done this? It's rather pricey so we're wondering if it's worth the money.

For clairfication- you do NOT "drive" the sled. You will be in tantum with a driver. But you will have the opportunity to ride the skis or basket. It requires "classes" for being able to drive yourself, of which I took last year north of Fairbanks. Took all day. :) But this glacier dog sledding option with Godwin's gets consistant raves. :) If of interest- go!

We did a similar thing at Skagway. The dogsledding was fun, but the best part, in my opinion was the helicopter ride to the glacier. BEAUTIFUL!!!

We did the Godwin Glacier dogsledding a couple of years ago and it was one of the best experiences of our trip. At the the time, the Toursaver book, which costs $100, had a buy-one get-one coupon for this which we used.

The helicopter ride is awesome in and of itself and when you land the dogs are very excited to see you. It is true that you don't drive your own sled independently, but being a Floridian who does not dogsled on a regular occassion, this didn't bother me! We had two teams of about ten dogs (there are 100+ at the camp), with each team pulling two sleds in tandem. You do still have to steer and brake however, even though you are being pulled by another sled.

Needless to say, I highly recommend it!

Message: mweeks71, Thanks for your comments about the Godwin tour. We're trying to decide if we should do it or not...it's pretty expensive.
My husband wants to do their flightsee glacier trip, but I want to do the sleddog, it could be a nce-in-a-lifetime chance. Your comments make it sound like an awesome idea.
I'm sure most people are on some type of budget, so we all want to make good choices as to how we spend our money in Alaska.
Thanks again.
