Glacier Bay or Kenai Fjords ??
Having only 2 weeks vacation in total for Alaska and to include Denali, Seward, Homer, valdez, would you recommend one, the other or definitely both locations for glaciers boat tours ??

When we went to Alaska, we took a 6 hour tour out of Seward and went to see the Kenai Fjords and they were magnificant. We saw many differnt animals and birds. There are many glaciers to see. I haven't been to Glacier Bay. Definitly go to Denali but have your tour booked ahead , just go the nps site to book it.

We did the 9.5 hour Northwestern Fjord Tour out of Seward. Saw a ton of wildlife and the glaciers were amazing. Would recommend it to anyone, but I also don't have anything to compare it to so I don't know if it's "the best" to do or not. I loved it though.

As spectacular as Glacier Bay is, I'd think the logistics of adding that to a Denali-Homer-Seward-Valdez itinerary might be a bit daunting and time consuming.
If you want to see glaciers without having to travel hundreds of extra miles, do both the Kenai Fjords NW tour and consider adding the 26-Glacier tour out of Whittier. |
Take a look at a map, Glacier Bay is on the inside passage. Unless you are looking at a one way cruise including it getting there and staying on your own, will eat up a lot of cash and time.
So for glaciers I would instead suggest Prince William Sound boat tours out of Whittier and especially Columbia Glacier out of Valdez. Save Glacier Bay for a cruise ship tour. |
thank you to all of you.
Well these are our 2 options: 1. Seattle-Gustavus Glacier Bay direct flight and speding 2 nights there for boat tours, then the Glacier Bay-Anchorage direct flight for the rest of our destinations 2. Seattle-Anchorage directly and bypassing Glacier Bay but having 2 more days to spend for the rest of our destinations but,as you say, it seems there are a lot of glaciers to see Around Seward Fjords and PWS /Valdez !! |
