Glacier Bay Lodge May Not Open This Year..
Not that this is a surprise, given the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. We had booked an Alaska vacation for our 40th wedding anniversary that included 3 nights/4 days at Glacier Bay, staying in the Lodge. Now, the national park service site states that they are delaying opening season until July 1, and that the Lodge is not likely to open at all.
"Because of the shortened season, cancellations, and lack of new bookings the Glacier Bay Lodge is not likely to open this season. 'The park and concessioner will use this unfortunate circumstance to invest in repairs to the facility to increase its economic viability in the future,” said Hooge.' The Lodge itself hasn't made an announcement, but we can likely only expect more contractions rather than less overall. |
I'm guessing nobody really needs me to confirm - but Glacier Bay Lodge will not open at all in 2020. We had prepaid lodging and day boat tour, so I'm waiting on that refund.
Still have Alaska Air reservations. I'm waiting to see if I can salvage some sort of vacation this July/August before I cancel. The fares are nonrefundable, but Alaska Air has said they will extend them so that we can still use them up until the date of our original trip in 2021. That's something, I suppose, but tight given Alaska's narrow season window. |
