GIrl's Weekend - Lexington

I am meeting three friends in Lexington Kentucky for a long weekend. We love horses, spas, antiques, shopping and great food. We will be there in July. Any great suggestions on fun places to stay, must see places, etc. would be most appreciated.

just watched Equitrekking on PBS and they visited the horse park in lexington. they have their host darley in a video on equitrekkingTV on youtube at the KY horse park if you want to check it out. they also went to visit a horse adoption place that retrains thoroughbreds. pretty worthwhile.

If you have time, drive to Pleasant Hill, a restored Shaker village on the Harrodsburg Road. It is fun to tour, and the food is delicious.

If it's a very long weekend and you don't mind the drive you should consider driving up to Louisville. There's more to do and better food IMO. If that sounds good to you just post again and I can give some suggestions to help you make a day of it.

Head out to Keeneland for breakfast. Even though the races aren't running, the track kitchen is open for breakfast year-round. It's great food, cheap, and a fun place to people watch. Folks who work at the track stop in constantly.

There are great restaurants in Lexington with nice patios. Malone's and Sal's have both built great patios, and the Atomic Cafe is a quirky, caribbean-style patio.

Just across the street from the Atomic Cafe is a little restaurant called Doodles. It's in an old gas station. It may be my new favorite place for breakfast. New Orleans-influenced breakfasts, and a nice little patio ...

The Pub, out by Fayette Mall, is a chain, but with a great English attitude. A beautiful bar in the center of the restaurant, neat decor, and good food. Music can be loud, but it's typically good old English rock and roll.

Lots more great restaurants ... no need to drive to Louisville just for that. A la lucie's for dinner, Ramsey's for good old comfort food ...
