Girls weekend celebrating 40th birthdays...near San Diego, any suggestions?

There are five us wanting to getaway for the weekend to celebrate two 40th birthdays. In January we went to Las Vegas for one b-day, and next year we have two more to celebrate.

It would need to be within 3 or 4 hours driving of San Diego or 2 or 3 hours flying. For the budget, we could handle rooms about $250/nt and nice dinners and also some kind of excursion or spa day. We are interested in hiking or something outdoorsy, or the beach, also some shopping, fine dining and maybe a spa? We will be going in May or June next year, but with five schedules to juggle we want to decide on it now. And, we can't cruise, one of us has severe motion sickness, so Catalina is also out.

We are looking into San Francisco, but logistics and expense are making us hesitant. We are also considering Sedona.

Thank you for any suggestions and dining and hotel recommendations & have a great day!

Hi Emily, Portland OR is a city that comes to mind. Not sure what you mean about expense and logistics of SF. Actually SF was my first thought but since you don't think that would work..but again I am not sure why you think it wouldn't. I haven't been to Sedona for ages..not since relatives sold their second home there. It has changed since I use to go there but it seems like people that visit Sedona really enjoy it.

Have you thought about flying north to the wine country? There are some very nice spa hotels and the wineries are always lots of fun.

I think that you are on the right track with Sedona. It sounds like it will fulfill most of your requirements (except for the beach part . Scottsdale has lots of spa choices, but will be pretty hot in May/June. Santa Fe, NM also comes to mind.

Santa Barbara with a "Sideways"-type wine tasting tour is also an option. However, since you live in San Diego, you know how May and June weather can be "iffy" along the coast.

Thank you for the ideas. As for SF, I was concerned about getting 5 of us to and from the airport and out to the wine country and anywhere else we would want to go. And, aren't the hotels more expensive there?

What about Santa Barbara? We could drive there, so we could afford more for the hotel.

Thank you for your time & Have a great weekend!

Hey EmilySD..
Being a SD girl myself, I second the Sedona idea..great weather and it is day trip to drive or you can fly to Phoenix and rent a car but we always drive...love the Enchantment Resort but there are alot of great places to stay and wonderful restaurants and the hiking is incredible..
I also love San Francisco and the wine country too..
I think SB will be similar to weather as we have here in SD on the May/June Gloom..

I live in AZ and think Sedona would be a good choice. How about Cabo if you are looking for beach ? Santa Barbara is also nice, or anywhere along the coast, i.e. Monteray, Carmel ...
